Isn't it funny that Napster spent millions of dollars and hours fighting for us when the music industry tried to take our beloved mp3 network away from us...... and now that Napster's in trouble (has to charge users) most of us are going to turn our backs and run to another mp3 provider!
I think Napster should sell napster-client ads to BMI. Napster would benefit from the extra cash, and BMI would generate a significant presence in the minds of the millions of napster users all over!
You can't just tell expect AOL users to recognize that AOL is controlling where they are visiting.
Of course we (savvy computer users) will recognize that AOL blows, and ditch the service. But I'm sure the vast majority of AOL users don't even realize that there is an internet behind what they see on AOL, so of course they're not going to ditch the service for a 'real' Internet provider.
Telling AOL users "if you don't like it, quit the service" is like some advanced utopian alien civilization saying, "if you don't like that hell-hole of a planet [earth], come to our planet 100 light years away." a) we dont' know how the hell we can do that and more importantly b) We dont' know we live in a hell-hole, because earth is the only planet we have experience with.
ralph@mydomain.com is my real email address. Amazon and Slashdot think my real email address is amazon.com@mydomain.com and slashdot.org@mydomain.com respectively. Of course, they all forward to my personal email account.
If someone starts spamming me, I kill the address. I can also easily track if my email address is sold to anyone (this has only happened once: I received Marriot [the hotel] spam to my latimes.com@mydomain.com email address).
Unfortunately, I haven't thought of a way to deal with friends/family who send me annoying chain letters with my private address clearly displayed in the cc: field. (Even worse in the case of one entertainer relative who sends out plugs via email.)
Wow, if titanium becomes as common and "household" as aluminum, glasses/snow-board/bicycle manufacturers won't be able to charge a premium for the space-age futuristic-sounding titanium!
Might have to start making things out of fine pewter again.
Wow, linux supports USB now? That's great! I've been using FreeBSD because it supports USB and seems more stable than linux, but I guess it's time to make the switch. One down, one to go.
The article claims Tim Berners-Lee is responsible for the WWW. I disagree. I feel the person who really made the WWW possible... the person who really gave access to the web to everyone... the person who placed the WWW on everyone's desktop is Bill Gates. (You thought I was going to say Al Gore, didn't you?)
this sounds like a commercial for freebsd. freebsd wouldn't touch wuftpd with a 10 foot pole. by default, you have only sendmail and inetd running (telnet/ftp/finger, etc).
i agree, however, that releasing a 4.x.y for rsa has a little "that would be cool" flavor to it, but freebsd really doesn't install random crap like linux.
(your boss, on an anti corporate measure) demand that you vote in thier presence
Your boss could currently demand that you use an absantee ballot in their presence...
Their internal wiring is probably running pretty close to the maximum 802.3 cable length of 100m!
When will the venture capitalists ever learn?

It's a win-win situation!

It's not the game manufacturers that are issuing boot cds, it's the end-users.
If you like the ideas in this post, go see the movie The Thirteenth Floor
Is there a difference between the PII and the PIII besieds Mhz?
AT&T network services and support don't even know what a ping is. How can they possibly expect to do something of this magnitude?
why not ban masturbation? Maybe sex too.

.sex is lame. .adult would be way more "professional".
I saw Jim at the sex bookstore!
I saw Jim at the adult bookstore!

Would you pay $4.95 a month to use Napster?
Not if I can get it for free somewhere else. I would consider paying $0.02 per download though.
It's already been done.

I have some material that responds to sight pressure.
What was the IP address of the test machine?
I just want to make sure I don't accidentally stumble upon it and screw things up again.
Damned Norwegians.
> They secured the hole and send an email to the admins, they even should be reading it now.
Who is they? What is it? Why is the word even there?
(these are serious questions)
From my personal experience with coworkers:
Northpoint/Megapath SDSL: GREAT!
ADSL: SUCK
Pacific Bell: SUCK(2x)
Bell Atlantic: SUCK(4x)
MediaOne cable modem: SUCK(4x)
