  1. Built on the Site of an Old Army Hospital on New Lucas Headquarters To Open in San Francisco · · Score: 1

Sound like a Poltergeist sequel?? Could be!!

The Lucas facility was built on the site of the old Letterman army hospital. A lot of pain, suffering and death happened in that location. I know... cause my dad was in the military. So we went to Letterman a lot. It wasn't pretty. In fact, it was downright scary.

So all you Lucas employees... When you go into the subterranean parking garages to drive your SUVs back to Marin, better watch out for the spirits of all those tormented soldiers who died horrible deaths right where you stand!

  3. Too Many Unemployed IT Folks on Internet Job Boards a Bunch of Hype? · · Score: 1

From what I have found, once you find a suitable job simultaneously at least 100 other people have too. So essentially your application/resume/begging gets tossed in a big bin with hundreds of other applicants.

Do you really think that line level HR do-bees are going to read through them all? They probably take the first 10 and forward the top 5.

So anyways, there are just too many IT people without jobs these days. Thank you, Dubya! Can I hitch a plane ride on Airforce one to the next NASCAR race too? I'll help pay! Hey, wait a minute! I pay taxes! I already *DID* pay!!!

  5. Use da brain, Luke! on Major Changes To MySQL Coming Soon · · Score: 1

Ditto!!! MySQL provides WAY more horsepower and features for 99% of web applications out there.

In the case of huge searches through gobs of text... Well, guess what... Any database is going to huff and puff on that kind of a query. We had the same problems with Oracle.

Does any search engine use such a simple query technique? NO! You have to do some (gasp) programming and (gasp) planning in order to create a (double-gasp) algorithm that works. Check out what the areyouhotornot.com guys did.

  6. Read protection. on Michael Jackson Releases Uncopyable CD · · Score: 1

It's not just uncopyable... It's unbuyable. The copy protection just adds to the read protection.

  8. Pixar is too high res on Sequel to TRON Coming Down the Wire · · Score: 1
Pixar doing Tron 2.0? I have no doubt they could pull it off. But their rendering engines are attempting to create more lifelike results. They would have to ratchet down their resolution in order to simulate the pixelated universe in Tron.

But at least Pixar still has some creative talent to make the story and characters interesting. And certainly there are enough geeks at Pixar to add the techno inside jokes. Can you imagine a Disneyfied boy-meets-girl (invert gender as appropriate), boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-back plot in the Tron world? Yawn.
