Last I checked, Skype was entirely optional to install, something you have to go out of your way to infect your system with, not something Microsoft jams down anyone's throat.
When WIndows 8 came out, Skype was there by default. It also happened to be extra retarded by default.
I remember it because some friends asked me to help them log in to the Skype app on a new Windows 8 machine.
After some swearing and Googling, I discovered that the app bundled with Windows will only work with a Windows Live account,
Skype logins that existed before the MS infection required that I uninstall the bundled version and get the less retarded version from Skype.com
Back in 1999, Quake 3 Arena came out with the ability to add maps, mods and skins to the game for free.
If it were made ~5 years ago, the equivalent would be buying half of the same content as the base game, with the other half in DLC that has been further divided into 5 pieces for example, all of which were completed prior to launch.
You are effectively buying an unlock code for content on your disc, with individual prices for each DLC piece or one season pass (Best value!)
If it were made now, the modern equivalent would be the DLC shit above + in game virtual currency to buy in game content (skins etc),
and that content used to be freely available to download, or make your own. Example: http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/n...
Now consider how you would monetise skins if they are freely available on the internet. Answer: prevent 3rd party skins and mods, give some weak excuse tied to "game as a service"
Example, overwatch: https://eu.battle.net/forums/e...
TL;DR: Jim Sterling was right, "only cosmetics" are part of the problem.
What happens if you need to patch or upgrade in a few years? Like for security? Do you have to rely on unsupported frameworks or throw everything away and start over? How does it work?
Remember, companies pay huge licensing fees exactly for support.
Well, you could just keep using jQuery like we do. It's still maintained and developed.
It won't get you 100 recruiter calls a day, but hey.
THIS.
I've also included the JQuery Widget API so that I can write my web apps as a set of reusable components. Unlike angular etc, their API hasn't significantly changed in the last few years: http://api.jqueryui.com/jQuery...
For me it is. I installed it yesterday (because I got fed up with some Windows 10 policies). I went with Ubuntu 17.04. First thing I wanted to do was install Chrome because that's what I'm used to using. But when I tried to install it, it didn't install. I don't know why. I'm sure I'll figure it out with enough time spent on it because I'm fairly tech savvy (or just stick with Firefox) but I don't think the average person would be able to deal with stuff like this. It's not ready for the desktop.
I typed this into a browser:
google.com/chrome/
There was a download link to get chrome:
https://www.google.com/chrome/...
The only difference here is using a.deb or.rpm file for Linux instead of a.msi or.exe file for Windows
Once it's installed it will get updates via apt if you're on ubuntu
I haven't checked yet, but I'm sure someone out there is making an IDE / compiler based on html5 so we can drop what ever IDE application we use for it.

I wish I had mod points, this post deserves them.

Microsoft needs to get rid of the shitty powershell and go full bash.

I don't like the term "reality shows" They're usually just game shows where people compete for a prize and/or fame
I'm writing CGI code in C right now

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but here's some IDE's:

But seriously, if nothing else, why not take volunteers from people on death row
Prisoners on Mars? That would make Mars "Australia version 2.0"
