I have heard that Heroku is actually starting to be a big reason people are starting look at PostgreSQL more as well. It's the default database offered and it is very well implemented. After trying it there and learning a bit about it, I don't see why you wouldn't use PostgreSQL
True, but this seems to be a thermal setup, not solar panels even though the article says solar panels. Although I have no idea if the mirrors have similar issues to solar panels regarding sand and such...
Ummmm, this is not going to affect generator synchronization at all. These systems are dealing with much greater variances than what this small amount of tinkering is going to do to the grid. If they can't handle that, then there are going to bigger problems...
Not saying that playing with the grid this way is exactly a great idea, but i doubt it is going to do much real harm.
Haven't hit my peak by far I am sure and never said I can't keep up. I just don't have time to branch out and learn new things outside of what I need to get done now as much as I would like to. Maybe I don't have the mindset that some do in the field. I enjoy programming and have plenty of projects at work that I handle, but I am not gonna go home and code for fun anymore after doing that all day at work.
I work in a small company so I have to step up in certain areas a person my age might not typically, which is great experience and I enjoy the challenge. But I do know that I would like to move up the ladder along the way or branch into something new. Don't think there is anything wrong with that.
I am a young programmer/engineer, and while I love my job, I do not want to be in the trenches doing this when I am 50. I am 25 and already noticing it harder to keep up on new things sometimes either becuase I dont have the time or don't really care sometimes. But that's what management is for, use your knowledge of how the process works to guide others, rather than do it yourself. As much as I enjoy doing design type work it's exhausting sometimes and I would like to have a life someday...

Once we automate truck drivers aren't we just essentially just reinventing what trains have done for years??
Would take the comments here with a grain of salt. The sample size of unemployed to employed engineers on slashdot during the day is very high!

I think Google is gonna try to cram as much stuff as possible into Gmail. Soon you will actually be able to Gmail in your Gmail while you Gmail...
