Although all of my adult websites use Adult Verification Services I don't think that the COPA is fair and it should in no way be enforced.
The fact that this law will also cover web-based chat rooms and discussions groups makes it ridiculous.
I don't think that they're doing this to protect children, they're most probably doing it based on their own believes that every sexual act should be censored.
I have Windows XP and Linux running on the same HD on my laptop, what exactly are you guys talking about?
btw,
Windows XP
is damn good and so is
Rock Linux
I'm not saying it's bad to make money. I'm only saying that developpers should profit from the software they developped or else their software will be used and abused while they stay poor.
It seems logical that non-profit and research groups should get it for free.
Let's say I'm a developper, why would I give my product for free to the same company who's going to charge me a great sum just to use their's? And how will I make money anyway?
Glad to see Linux saving the Rich and Famous from paying a little money.
I told you that kind of think will happen but you closed your eyes. Well, you just got screwed:)
It's damn wrong for profit hungry companies to use a free operating system such as linux. They never gave something away for Free so why should they deserve a free OS? Remember, this is Hollywood we're talking about, movie studios have no problems using and benefiting from Linux, but when Linux users want to use the technology(DeCSS) written for the sole purpose of viewing legally obtained DVD's, those same movie studios turn around and file a lawsuit. So tell me how are they giving back to the community?
Linux should be used for non-profit, medical, etc. research. If a company needs Linux, it should pay for it.
Using Linux to make money is almost as bad as using God to make money.
Why would companies pay developers when their's a chance that some Open Source geeks created a similar software and are giving it away for free? They'll only need an employee who's computer proficient to modify a few things.
Hey now, Open Source is great, companies whose sole interest is to make money will save millions of dollars because of Open Source. Meanwhile, developers will starve to death:)
Why don't they reveal the VHDL/Verilog source code for the Transmeta processors. Why not GPL it? If Linus says that Open Source is that damn great, how come they don't use it for Transmetta processors?
however I don't think the school should be blamed, they simply gave him a suspension. It appears to me that this guy was overloaded with extraculicular activities (swimming, playing violon, martial arts training and computers). This is way too much for a 13 year old boy and I can only guess that he was pushed to some of these activities by his parents. He was a high-achieving youngster and living up to his reputation prooved to be too much of a burden. He made a mistake, and at his age, he didn't know how to deal with it. He was afraid!
Nowadays children are thaught at a very young age how to contribute to society and be a high-achiever. No one stops to think what a child really likes or dislikes, they want the children to have discipline and teach them very early how to be like the rest of the society. No wonder that once they do something different or make a mistake they become be haunted by it.
We're 6 billion people, the more we grow the harder it'll get.
I'm trying win XP beta 2 and I think it's an okay OS. Why the hell would I buy Easy CD Creator when it costs as much as Windows XP?
As for Real, it's crap and it pisses me off that so many websites use it for streaming. Can't they use Windows Media Player or QuickTime for god's sake? They're much better.
Nope. It's (to use your example) $75/month forever. Any company that decides it wants off the upgrade treadmill still has to continue paying
Any company that decides to wants off the upgrade treadmill is a doomed company. Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is for desktop publishers to deal with a company that have something like Office 4.2, PakeMaker 3, etc? And it gets even more painfull for helpdesk people. Yes the subscription model is the way to go, not only for MS but for other companies to. I think Adobe is starting on this road to.
The reactions thus far have been almost all negative; the only way MS could convince people to pay for subscriptions is if the price was much lower than the current price of purchasing the software outright.
I don't think it should be more than $9.95/month for one license. At $9.95/month I would prefer subscribing than purchasing Office XP.
I was kind of disappointed, seeing The Rock for only 2-3 minutes, I expected to see more of the most electrifying man in the history of entertainment . But the movie was real fun.
The other thing that disappoints me is how they choose the actresses, the good girl is damn ugly and the bad one (Anck Su-Namum) is pretty hot. Is it my taste or their mistake?
Because they (MS) are trying to eliminate their competition by leveraging their desktop monopoly. Did you think it was for the consumers? Hahahahaha.
It's an OS for God's sake, if it doesn't have something as basic as a browser, an address book, a calendar, an email reader and a media player well I would feel as if I had been screwed by buying it. Ask yourself this: why do companies sell only underwear? Shouldn't they integrate everything (shirt, pants, etc.) necessary to go out in public with? You can bet your ass that they would if some company had a monopoly on underwear... and you as a consumer would be much worse off....
I don't care much about clothes, it wouldn't have made any difference in my life.
Microsoft's (MS) new.Net strategy, coupled with the impending release of XP, presents a significant risk to the AOL franchise. By integrating and embedding traditional AOL functionality (e.g., email, IM, chat, wallet, calendar, address book, web browsing, content aggregation, media players, etc)
why would an OS integrate email, IM, chat, calendar, address book, web browsing and media players? Poor AOL, I sure hope they loose that battle. Suddenly an OS is bad just because it integrates everything needed for the web in a user friendly environment? AOL will fail, their only option is to join forces with MS. But then again, AOL/TW/MS, they would be unstoppable.
oh haha I was wondering, it's called WordPerfect Office 2002. Employees at the company I work for drove me crazy telling them that Office 2002 isn't out yet but they told me they just bought it. I guess a few other people bought that Office 2002 mistaking it for MS Office. People are stupid, no wonder it's #38 in sales.
Apple provides the source for anybody willing to download it and they can compile and use it for free, as well as modify it and re-release it.
I doubt that, if it's true why then are they suing the people who create Mac like themes? And if it's true, how come we never saw a MAC OS Lite version or something? You're telling me that just like Linux, I can download and compile the whole OS for free? For some reason I don't believe you. Yet somehow Apple gets labelled the "black hole of Open Source".
You're wondering why? Steve Jobs is your answer and also the fact that they can't make a decent OS by themselves, they need to use Xerox's GUI and BSD's code.

OfficeXP runs on almost any version of Windows and soon on MAC OSX

They used to be enlightened. I somehow have the impression that the world is going backwards.
haha

What have you been using as an OS lately? Windows 2k, Windows XP and Windows Update allow you to do this stuff already.
I'm trying win XP beta 2 and I think it's an okay OS. Why the hell would I buy Easy CD Creator when it costs as much as Windows XP?

people complain about MS as much as they complain about taxes and they both still exist.

I guess, as triple H would say, they are that damn good.
Apparently around here anything MS have to get bashed. Now don't spoil their fun.

When MS took open source software and gave nothing back to the community everybody was bitchin. Now that Apple is doing it, suddenly it's okay.
