Things actually got worse for me under Obama, because of health care. I work for large company so it is more cost effective to get my health insurance through the company than going it alone. But my family has a lot of health care needs and the company health care really doesn't cover much. We always got by before using a health care reimbursement program that allowed us to put my aside pre-tax and then use it to pay for medical services. One of the way the government payed for the new health care system was by dramatically lowering what can be put aside in a health care reimbursement program. Now we have to pay for so much out of pocket/after taxes that it is really putting us in the hole. But it turns out that it is still cheaper to stay on the company plan regardless.
My wife had an aunt who basically spent her entire life attending college, going from degree program to degree program. She eventually died (she was in her 60s or 70s) with very little of her student loans paid off since she had been able to defer payments throughout most of her life.
This makes me sad. Competition is always a good thing. It would suck for Android if iOS went away (I don't consider MS Windows Mobile to be much of a competitor). It would suck for Chrome if Firefox went away (I don't consider MS IE/Edge to be much of a competitor).
It was a good post until "microsoft may just win the mobile phone market." This has already been won by Android (and to a certain extent by Apple as well). Microsoft can't win something they have already lost. Especially when they haven't even hardly begun the race when everyone else is already at home watching the highlights on the 11 o'clock news.
We have been using Oracle (legally) for 15 years, but are in the process of switching to Postgres. Postgres has been such a breath of fresh air after Oracle that we keep asking ourselves why we didn't do this years ago?! I have tons of experience with Oracle, but I honestly can't understand why 99% of Oracles current uses can't use Postgres.
I thought the Bourne trailer producers just screwed up and included the same footage twice. It never occurred to me that they may have done it on purpose!
Where will the goods, like food, come from that everyone is buying with their UBI? Even huge corporate farms need laborers and aren't anywhere close to being fully automated. Why would someone go out into the fields and slave away all day when they have a UBI?
How do you look for another public school? We live within the boundaries of a particular school, so that is where the kids go. Its not like any of the other public schools would be any different based on what my daughters friends, who attend those other schools, say.
So, in other words the ideal living situation for the stereotypical techie! To be honest that almost does sound like the ideal living situation to me. I'd gladly give up ever seeing the outdoors again or ever communicating with another human again if I had unlimited access to any media I want and meals are provided for me.
This reminds me of a related issue. Apparently every teenager, except for my daughter, has a smart phone. This is assumed to such an extent that the high school teachers regularly incorporate their use into their lessons. At first they don't believe my daughter when they ask her why she isn't participating and she informs them that she doesn't have a phone (a few have actually sent her to the office for lying to them about not having a phone). Once she convinces them that she really doesn't have a phone they regularly berate her for messing up their lesson plans. I've complained to the school authorities, who assure me that a phone is not required, but to no avail. It is astonishing to me that the teachers can't comprehend that a teenager might not have a smart phone.
I live near 5 Intel campuses and know a lot of people who work at the fabs and are chip developers. There is a lot more going on than just a person pressing a start button.
"The price of this short-term public benefit may well be the future vitality of American culture." How in the world can someone possibly say that with a straight face. I would bust up laughing before I was halfway through that line.
Is "opportunity" a new euphemism for money?
My only question is, should I write in "Bernard Sanders" or "Bernie Sanders" on my ballot?

What about acting as organic batteries for the machines?

But logically wouldn't that lead to massive inflation?

Are you serious? You really believe that farmer laborers will be paid more?
So, any grain, vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy, etc. will now be considered luxury items?

But, but, but... without social media how can I create a fake version of myself to make all of my "friends" envious so they Like me?

How can this be at a score:0? This is a brilliant summary. I wish I had mod points today.
