To those who see oil as a reliable, low-cost energy source, the choice is between a pipeline or trains.
To those who see oil as energy source with serious environmental consequences, the choice is between ensuring continued use of oil in the future or finding alternative and less-damaging alternatives, even if they are more expensive.
If you've been campaigning for the country to do everything possible to reduce dependence upon oil, installing a pipeline to bring large quantities of oil into the country is going to look counterproductive.
"If they're so anti-abortion, why not work on ways to make it much less needed by offering more birth control and pre-natal healthcare to women?"
Because the opposition to abortion doesn't exist in isolation. It has to coexist with other ideological commitments, and two of them are in opposition to this action.
There's a libertarian ideology which overlaps with abortion opposition. This one doesn't actually care about abortion either way, but it strongly opposes any form of government-imposed intervention. This one says that the government should not have the power to dictate what medical services an insurance company or healthcare provider should be required to provide: This is a transaction between a service provider and customer.
There's also a religious ideology. This one opposes abortion, but it also opposes contraception - something seen as an enabler of sinful fornication. From the religious perspective, non-marital sex is an inherently immoral action: Even if contraception reduced the number of abortions greatly, you'd only be exchanging one evil for another.
There are many ideologies competing, and individuals often subscribe to multiple ones which partially conflict - this means there must be some form of compromise or reconciliation to make them fit together.
There is crypto-anarchy - the use of technological means to render the government unable to enforce laws infringing upon fundamental freedoms. If the government bans books, set up decentralised and encrypted networks to disseminate them anyway.
Canada and New Zealand both reported a spike in web traffic to their immigration services, so a lot of people are at least considering that option. Only a tiny fraction will actually go through with it.
There isn't a single Anarchist Cookbook. It's always been a living document - it was passed around underground, being constantly revised as people added new bits and took others off. You could be given it by ten people, and get ten slightly different versions.
Don't be so sure about that: Many countries have laws that define child pornography to explicitly include artistic depictions or photoshopped fake images (known legally as 'pseudophotgraphs' in the UK).
Someone get a dump server up and running. Twenty-odd terabytes of storage should do it, for anyone in the know to upload and download as they see fit, all safely on the university network.
Humans are a naturally tribal species. You can pick them from the savana and put them in a modern industrial setting, but the instincts will still assert. They will always divide into tribes - perhaps along racial lines, or political, or even over something as trivial as which football team to support. The members of any tribe will then always put the interests of tribe-members above those of outsiders, and at times may even be actively hostile towards rival tribes.
"Ha ha, Russia is going to invade and tens of millions of your citizens will die! America could step in and stop that, but fuck you, we don't owe you anything."
Don't blame me. If I were American, I'd have voted Hillary.
Trump will probably push the religious right agenda because he is a Republican and there will be others in the party that urge him to, and he needs their support. But he personally has shown no sign of caring about religion in the slightest: He's twice-divorced, once due to adultery on his part, brags of his sexual conquests, and had business interests in the pornography industry. His attempts to appeal to the religious vote were laughable - he couldn't even quote a bible verse properly.
They were also pointless: The religious websites have been running columns ever since Trump won the nomination arguing that Christians ought to vote for him anyway, solely on the grounds that he is not Hillary, and Hillary is both pro-choice and pro-gay-rights (Or, in their terminology, pro-death and anti-family).
So where religious issues are concerned, what we have on our hands is a candidate who doesn't care either way about things like gay rights or abortion, but will happily let his fellow Republicans do whatever they want.
There were legitimate concerns about Sanders fundraising ability. Politics are expensive - a candidate who pledges increased regulation, especially of finance, is not going to get so many corporate donations.
Trump does not care about gay marriage in the slightest. This issue does not affect The Donald, therefore it does not register with him. If he makes any efforts to undo gay marriage, it will be only because the rest of the party wants to do so and Trump sees no reason to get in their way.
I can tell you exactly what happens in that situation: The student doesn't get to use the computers. At all.
I've never actually seen it happen, but I have seen new students stuck in that situation for a week while their parents keep forgetting to sign and return the usage agreement form.
We don't log keys, but we do log every application launched and site visited. It's mostly for after-the-fact investigations. When someone leaves pornographic printouts scattered around the corridoors as a joke (this has happened) or takes a picture of another student from the school website, draws a crude penis pointing in their mouth and labels it 'fag' (this has also happened) then we need every bit of evidence we can get to try to work out who was responsible - and to prove who was responsible when they accused then claims that they went to the toilet without logging out and someone else must have used their account.
I work at a school. We block all email services except for the one we control, and the one we control has filters on it that prevent any student from emailing another student.
We have this in place because a lot of bullying was taking place over email, and the school could have faced legal action because of it.
I expect the first priority for the Republicans now will be reversing everything done under Obama. Even the thing they agree with, they can't allow a Democrat to claim the success. I expect a health care reform repeal act to pass at some point in 2017.
Trump himself doesn't really have any policies, just powerful rhetoric, so I would expect him to just reflect the party positions on most issues. The country will march on, there will be a brief battle (which republicans will win) over at least one supreme court nominee when the Republicans insist on appointing someone who has pledged to overturn Roe given half a chance, and Trump will say something embarassing every couple of months that will need a bit of diplomatic skill from his underlings to downplay. America may become a bit of a laughing stock for a time, but it'll still carry on running. Food will be on the table, television will keep on running, and the people will grumble as usual.
The sane ones mostly ended up supporting Trump anyway, because it's the politically reasonable thing to do: Vote for the crazy who mostly supports the positions of your party, because the alternative is a person who would actively oppose those positions. A lot of upset Bernie supporters are in much the same position.
If it does work, and scientists can figure out *how* it works, then it is likely that the better theoretical understanding would make it possible to refine the design and improve thrust and efficiency.
FBI: We want to hack a ton of computers belonging to people who are probably innocent. Judge: Sorry, I can't issue a warrant for that. FBI: We need to do this in order to catch monsters who sexually abuse children. Judge: Fucking scum like that have no rights! You have my warrant, do whatever it takes!
Let me quote from the front page story of one of those sites:
"Flight logs revealed that, on at least 26 separate occasions, Bill Clinton accompanied sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on his Boeing 747, which Epstein had nicknamed the “Lolita Express.” He allegedly had a team of traffickers who procured girls as young as 12 for him and his fellow passengers on their way to “Orgy Island,” a 72-acre island called Little St. James. The plane “was reportedly outfitted with a bed where passengers had group sex with young girls” according to Fox News. There were eleven separate occasions where Bill Clinton was reported to have boarded Epstein’s plane, but flight logs show the number is more than double that; 26 separate occasions between 2001 and 2003."

This does not sound like a very reputable news source.
I saw a comment posted elsewhere just this morning linking to that site. I can't even remember what the article was about though, and the comment has been moderated-out. Something about the government paying black-supremacist militias.
I would have gone for his strange claim that the constitution was 'drafted by whites.' It's true, the writers of the constitution were all white, but what significance does that fact have on the arguments presented?
Government can work like a village, if you're governing a village. The larger the number of people governed, the more complex a system of government is required. This is why most countries use some form of hierarchy - city, county, regional and national governments.
Difference perspectives.

I think 2) may be the intention.
