    your statement is mathematically impossible:
    Take for example a 8 note melody. if we don't consider the octave there are 12 possibles notes (C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B) so we have 12*12*12*12*12*12*12*12 =429 981 696 possible melodies for just 8 notes. Now if you factor in the first 8 different duration you now have 429 981 696 * 8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8 = 7 213 895 789 838 336 possibles melodies for 8 notes that can have one of 8 duration.

I am not selling a tool or anything else. I am just suggesting you to see a consultant, someone who solve that kind of problems for a living.

I specialize in J2EE application security, so I am not suggesting that you hire me. But hiring a good consultant for solving a specific problem is usually money well spent.

    First: it's a normalized database.

yeah and I said denormalized, you use a BI tool to do an ETL then from this dataset you do the analytics and the reporting. It is way faster that way.

I don't have your code but I am certain that changing the parameters you talk about is not a good solution since, assuming it exist, it binds you to a specific platform.

You wont find any good answer on a forum.

Pay a consultant that was there since java 1.0 for your solution, someone in BI with previous experience with servlet would do you good.

for report like what you described a few post up, you should consider a BI tool to do the reporting on a denormalized database.
But for your rag tag "real world" system, a rapid fix would be to inject a bean that hold the Futures in the session attributes and then to cancel them when they are no longer needed.
I leave the implementation details to yourself, I have already said to much without getting paid.
