You are free to cast your own vote.

You are not free to spend money purchasing other votes.

Besides, quit whining about free speech. The first amendment states 'Congress shall make no law restricting the freedom of speech,...'. Nothing regarding what individual states may legislate. Here in Massachusetts, blasphemy is still a misdemeanor.

The US is a democratic republic, not a democratic state. Otherwise we could have national referendums.

The White House became the White House after its previous incarnation was torched by the Brits in 1814. Wartime repairs included a hasty reboarding and a coat of white paint with plans to restore the original look--Red Federalist.

Public approval and government inertia maintained the white, and changing fashions led to an updated facade and vestibule reflecting what period architecture considered a state mansion.

  10. You are so close, but not quite there... on Hubble Captures Colliding Galaxies · · Score: 1

You are so close to the answer, but you haven't hit the nail on the head.

If a galaxy is headed away from you at .9c, you will never see it form. This is not because the gravity acts 'slowly', it is because time is so dilated, the galaxy forms in incredibly slow motion. From an observer in the other galaxy, your own will also never form.

As to the galaxy remaining cohesive, that is difficult to say. From it's own reference point, yes, it will remain cohesive, but from a reference point moving .9c away, that is a different matter.

Because simultaniety of events will not transfer between the reference points, the position of the stars/star clusters relative to each other change radically between external reference points. Due to this, the galaxy will appear much larger and less dense than to a native moving with the galaxy.

  13. What is ALWAYS forgotten on Debunking The Need For 200FPS · · Score: 1

There is one small detail that is almost ALWAYS forgotten when someone writes and article like this and talks about when you can and cannot see flicker. People don't watch Q3, they play Q3. Adding the hand-eye feedback loop to the situation makes q3 (et al.) a radically different experience from passive viewing. Human reaction times can drop below a hundredth of a second for expected events. This is why drag racers use the christmas tree starting lights and eliminate driver reaction as part of the race. Assuming monitor, mouse, vid card, etc are all up to spec and can handle >120 or >150 fps, the difference over 60-70 fps is very real for the player, but a passive viewer won't be able to tell. Simply watching for flicker to go away while you crank up the refresh is like asking the guy in the passenger's seat how the car is handling. He really has no clue.
