Including the Smiths, whom you quoted in your signature? I think they've got a tighter control on the channel than you are admitting...

On the other hand, I completely agree with you. It's going to be a long haul until we've completely replaced their infrastructure, but let's get on with it! :P

*I* am really tired of people spewing who have never even used what they're bitching about.

I'm sure you can plug a little corded earphone into the Treo.

I actually use an old Visor with a Sprint phone module (got mine for $12. I don't mind holding it up to talk, but 90% of the time I use the corded earphone, talking during my daily commute. That said, I would prefer the smaller footprint of a Treo.

I totally agree... when I am interviewing people for developer postions, just about the most important question to me is "what are your side projects - what do you do in your spare time?" This separates the Type A's from X's like oil from water...

  4. Actually I agree with ya, matey... on Palm PDA Roundup · · Score: 1
I was just kidding - I would love to find a cheap Sprint PCS module for my Handspring. When I bought the Handspring almost 3 years ago a phone was all I wanted as an add-on. I totally agree it would be a great, lean-and-mean, PDA solution.

The bottom line, IMHO: PDA's that try to be laptops haven't really solved the SIZE catch-22:

You still can't beat a full keyboard and screen to get serious work done

With our current tech, you can't decrease the footprint without sacrificing in those areas

The folding keyboards are one step in that direction, but they are pretty damned klunky and you have twice as much bulk to carry... (insert obligatory "rabbit in pocket" joke here...)

  5. That would be great, but... on Palm PDA Roundup · · Score: 1

I just tried to bid on the two available and got out-proxy-bidded to $40 bucks... karma be damned, I just have to ask... are you the the seller, guac? Slashdotting your own auction, for shame! :>

I always assumed this was true, and I further wonder if any GPL stuff made it into Windows...
I further opine that wouldn't it be great if it turned out to be the case and they were forced to publish all their source...
then I come to my senses and realize that it would be bad enough to be forced to look at that source if they PAID you well... no one else should be made to suffer so...

  7. Re:what's the point? on Next-Gen Pop-up Ads · · Score: 1

That's modded as "funny"? Too bad it's very true.

Check out these instructions on how to remove two of them called Spyware Nuker and NoPop!, both from Lion's Pride. I had the NoPop! variant infect my system, and of the 3 dozen or so popup ads it displayed while my computer sat idle, one or two were for the NoPop! product itself. These people need to die NOW!

Here's the company info from the above link:

On running a Domain name check I found that the Domain http://www.spywarenuker.com is actually owned by the following advertising company that according to them "specializes in integrated marketing, media branding and online advertising technologies"

    Domain Name: SPYWARENUKER.COM
    Organization:
    Lions Pride Enterprises, Inc.
    1959 Palomar Oaks Way - 3rd Floor
    Carlsbad, CA 92009
    US
    Phone: (760) 496-1600
    Fax..: (760) 496-1601
    Email: webmaster@lionsprideenterprises.com
    Web Site: http://lionsprideenterprises.com/

How about that? A Spyware removal program owned by an advertising company that specializes in installing Spyware/Adware on Computers. What's wrong with this picture?

  8. PGP Freeware Source is available on Can GnuPG Deliver? · · Score: 2, Informative

FWIW, NAI posted the source for PGP Freeware, for peer review purposes. It is still available from the MIT Distribution center for PGP. It's copyright NAI, of course, but it makes for a good read, if nothing else. IANAL, but I wouldn't think it would be illegal to peruse and learn. Certainly lots of integration tips to glean in there (Eudora, Lotus Bloates, LookOut Express, etc). No cut and pasting tho! :>
