I just read the article at LinuxDevices. "Cool!" I thought and went straight to Intel's pages about UPnP, where I read with delight that the code is free and even for linux, too.
But: They only provide some self-extracting archives, there!
I'd really like to test those things on my embedded platforms, but no.tgz,.zip. Gha.
Well,
at first I'd like to say that I'm a regular OS X 1.2 user (on a TI PB, that is) and
I like OS X quite much, and I make a living of coding (C and C++ mostly, Linux and other *nixes).
I tried to get used of Objective C, but i find it quite cumbersome to use,
and that's why I don't see this happen soon. To get the most
out of Carbon/Cocoa you'll have to use Objective C. That's the
reason why I never got to use it (mostly due to lack of time),
because I'd first have to learn Objective C.
I think this happens to other developers too (read: game developers).
Well, ok. Basically this means that the whole area is quite stable (because of not being located near any tectonic folds/bounds).
Ok, now what about the ever changing nature of ice itself? I mean, this ice built up due to snow falling on the surface and then beeing compressed slowly to ice. In this month's german edition of Scientific American there's an article 'bout that somewhere here.
Ice keeps on "flowing" like some liquid, but only slower (way slower). What about the tension built up because of that? Ice is brittle, don't constantly keep cracks and canyons build up?
AFAIK, Sony has not yet contributed the linux kernel changes they made back to the community.
I'd love to run Linux on my PSX2, tough. But it's not worth it if i can't re-compile my kernel and learn from looking through the source. That's the big point in OpenSource: contribute back to the community, not just take the source and be fond of saved developing time.
I also think that Sony is legally forced to reveal the Source as the Linux Kernel is GPL.
You'll have to think abaut power usage as well. Those PC boxen need _lots_ of electrical energy, which sums up over the year.
IMHO its more effective to just buy a DSL Route with an 4-port switch built into it. I've seen those beasts for roughly DM 400.- to DM 600.- ($200-$300).
Gee, yet another "Super Fast Widget Library Which Will Make Your Eyes Pop Out" sort of thing (no offense meant:).
Yes, looks Sexy.
Yes, definitely is good code.
BUT:
Why keep people re-implement the wheel all over again and again and... ? Why not use a existing Widget Lib and _extend_ it? Look at QT, look at GNOME!
Hrmpf.
Take the VW Golf TDI. It outruns most similar sized cars, in both acceleration and top speed. And about microparticels: Nowadays they are using filters OR burn then (i.e. particels ar no longer produced).
VW built cars that run on 4 liters per 100 kilometers, and one can actually buy them (VW Lupo).
Take the SuSE package. I have the new 7.0 and the old 6.4 version and i am VERY impressed.
Suse 7.0 installed EXACTLY the same way on MAC as on Wintel. It recognised all Hardware, set up my Ethernet, found my USB Printer, installed Xfree 4.0 with hardware-acceleration for Rage 128 and everything worked fine.
BTW, SuSE Linux has a full GUI-Installer and you can simply boot from CD, without any fuss
about yabooting and first downloading images etc.
(i own a iMac Dv)
fusion != fission
For VIM I use the Project plugin, which gives me just enough IDE like stuff.
The M$ C compiler runs fine from command line, you dont have to use the Visual Studio.
Works very fine for me.

Hmm, i've only suffered 2 crashes of Safari (both which, it seems, in combination with heavy java apps ...).
...
So, i'm off booting and running swupdate
Well, among others they definitely missed OS X Server.
First I'd like to say that choice is always good, and the more apps on OS X, the better.
:-)
But, Aqua is a really nice window manager already. I use OS X and Aqua at home, and Linux/KDE at work, and IMHO Aqua is by far superior to KDE.
I'd like to see konqueror on OS X though...

Just my $0.02 anyway...

I wonder how the keep the ice from wandering/changing.
As in glaciers, I suppose that antarctic ice is constantly changing (or at last i think so). And 1Km^3 of ice is quite a big mass.
Just my $.02 tough...

Right so. Especially as noone knows who _is_ responsible for this terrible thing.
