This is astounding. You sir are a fool. Who are you to say what these companys should do. Did you put the money into the product? Did you spend months designing the product? Did you spend the mind wracking nights making the product work so that most of the market share can use it? (yes this may mean microsoft software.) Who are you to say that you want the source? Because you are a user?
If you like it or not (more like not) People in this world have to make a living. and that means not giving stuff away when you can prevent it. Yes I agree that the world would be a better place if we could give every thing away, but that isnt going to happen in my lifetime (or in the lifetime of my grandchildren im a thinkin)
All of you kids need to grow up and spend a day in the real world. Yes idoligies (bad spelling) are a good thing as long as you remember its just a IDEAL. Sometimes people dont share them. And companies dont make money off of them. And I dont get payed off of them. And I dont buy stuff (like my computer) off of them.
and btw, the US is not a democracy as much as it is a republic. Very rare is it that laws are voted in election, 99.9% are made in congress or your state legeslation. About the only time that someing is voted on by the public is when the county or city wants something passed.
And what system of government would you perfer? I think that we in the US have it quite well. Go to Saudi some time.

I'll be the first to admit it. I'm new to linux and I'm a Gamer. Bad combo.
I have installed Red Hat 6.2 rather effortlessly. Got my SBLive running. Got on the net with little hassle and customised Gnome.
But for the life of me, I can't get XFree86 4.0 to run. And that makes it hard to install my Nvidia drivers. I have tried irc, FAQ's and have had people comeover and all to no avail. I would love to ditch my 20 gig windows partition and run linux strait up, but if I can't get my system up and running it does me no good (except for serfing the web, Damn Fast!!!). If anyone can help me please mail me above. Im running a Athlon 550, GeForce DDR, 128 Meg Ram, SBLive, 30 gig HD (20 windows, 10 linux), KTI 10 base-T NIC, and CL 48x CD-ROM.
Linux and AMD have the ability to shatter the WinTel stranglehold on the industry. But its not going to be easy. Microsoft has the desktops and gamers by the neck and are not going to let go without a fight. Linux has the servers just about wraped up (even in the Military, HELL YA). Now comes the disicion if we want Linux to become a comsumer OS. As of June 5th it has a long way to go. Do I want my parents to run Linux, yes. Are they able to run Linux, no.
Comming from a new Linux user, Linux is a great os. It doesn't crash every hr or so and is much faster on the net. However it has to improve on ease of use and in my opinion, compatability.

One of the probles with GL is that it is a standard. there havn't been any changes to it sense 1.2 back in 95ish.
DirectX may be a bitch to code in and it may be windows only but at least it is still being updated with new features.
OpenGL otoh is simplicty in its self to code in.
And ill take GL anyday over DirectX

No not realy.
