  1. Extra revenue from experiment not accounted for : on 38% of Downloaders Paid For Radiohead Album · · Score: 1

What about the payment from the marketing company who paid for access for the sales information and our user data, and the consequent revenue raised by selling this data back to the music industry. I'll bet it's not insignificant, marketing data is big business and nobody want's it more right now than the music and related industries.

.. bah.. bloody idiots. And I bet these are the same people that call me up and expect me to tell them their passwords over the phone and then get pissed off because I want their details..

    Simple security procedures.

Didn't anyone learn anything from losers like Kevin Mitnick?

  4. Neil Gaiman is a writer. on First New Gaiman Sandman In 7 Years · · Score: 1
    Neil Gaiman is a writer.

A real writer.. not a journalist or a pulp fiction pimp.. but a real storyteller. I like most (but not all) of his works, but the Sandman series is the only american comic book series I seriously invested in. Its his masterpiece. Even my comic-phobe girlfriend couldn't put them down.

His novels are excellent as well, but the visual nature of his storytelling lends itself really well to the comic medium.

This is the best news I've heard all day! But a catch 22.. looks like slashdot just melted dccomics.com... doh!

  5. Astrologically speaking... on Close Encounters Of The Mars Kind · · Score: 1
I realise slashdot isn't really a forum for astrology or any of that weird hippy shit you can't measure, test or quantify...

... but does anyone else think its weird that classically speaking Mars is the planet/god/symbol for war?

  6. This is "normal" on Telstra Denies Selling BigPond Customers' Data · · Score: 1

Spammers are now sorting their addresses alphabetically and by domain.
AS some one who works at an ISP, I can vouch for telstra in this case.. but not usually. I despise them like many others.
But as many peple have already commented, spam comes grouped like this nowadays, and its not because the ISP is selling the address, its because they are leaving it on the net somewhere.
To prove this, we setup a dummy account on our system.. and left it there for months. In all that time it has not recieved 1 email.. spam or otherwise. This proves our system was not compromised, and that if you dont get your address out there, it wont get spam.
While users email addresses sometimes do not show up in a google search.. many people dont realise that even joke forwarding is being raped for addresses.

  7. When will they learn... on Senator Pushes Bill To Limit Anti-Copying Schemes · · Score: 1

Build a better mousetrap? If you can play it.. you can copy it. Simple as that. There is always a way.. so why bother? There needs to be a shift in attitude towards copyright as a system.. these old laws will continue to fall into irrelvenance as technology improves.

  8. Ahhh the old Floppy Bot on Floppy the Robot · · Score: 1

These plans have been around for a while.. a quick google will reveal a few different floppy bot mutations.. Now show me a CD-ROM bot complete with laser guns.

  9. Mirror Available on Unreal Tournament 2003, Now With More Ogg · · Score: 1
Sites coping.. but kinda slow.. so heres a mirror if you need it -
