Dot net is screwed up on my workstation in such a way that even removing every piece of it and reinstalling it will not get me to a situation where it will succeed installing the updates. The fix it programs don't work, suggestions on the web -- nothing. Linux has never been that annoying.
People who take this kind of shit from employers are a reason we're in this predicament. The employer can fire you at will in a place, but if he thinks the rest are going to walk out if he does pulls this, it's not going to happen. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
How do you reasonably maintain a 24x7 server environment without staffing three full shifts? Why would I call you back off hours if you aren't providing me with a phone? Phone, and compensating me for my off-hours work, has got to be cheaper than hiring 2 more people.
I used to think this way, but I'm frequently away from my desk long enough for it to matter (or in meetings or in the server room or whatever). 30 mins may not seem like a long time to be away from one's desk, but if something goes wrong, I tend to want to know.
I have a small bank. They reimburse me for ATM transactions up to $25/mo (which in a month is a lot). The only time it inconveniences me to have a decent bank is when I need to walk in to do something (which is basically never).
In NJ, it's quite common to see two different prices. Apparently the only rule is that the prices must be the same size on the sign. Many of them have gone with removing the prices for premium and ultra or whatever the two were called and just posting the regular cash and unleaded price.
I had to drive around quite a bit one time to find gas stations that haven't gone down this road. Maybe a couple of cents, but nine cents per gallon?
And congratulations to you for being a reactionary idiot. I've installed CFL's at my grandmother's house and they've been there for years and years. I've had a couple fail in my old place, but no more often (and I think significantly less often) than standard bulbs.
Yeah, I've seen mainly Fords and Korean cars do this. It's wonderful. I try to avoid renting other cars now -- everyone else seems to be behind the curve.

Was going to post that link. It's a friend of a friend's project. It doesn't perfectly solve the problem, but it's getting there.

"No." And honestly, it's not the same. The boss can't reach me 24x7 on my screwdriver.

You must be new here.
Unionize.

If it's my device that I paid for, I *don't* want to connect to work resources. Fuck that. My device, my number, none of your business.
Do I really want to give him money he can use to support this cause, or the notoriety to give him a microphone? Not really.
If I were, I might pay cash. But neither is taking place.
What size are most of your tickets if $7 is a big ticket? :)
They could follow me and get most of the same info. It's not as if I'm not doing all of that stuff in public.
Some places don't take Discover (oddly enough, I see that many seem to be in NYC). Most take all cards, in my experience.
Look at all of the airlines. They all (any I've flown in the last couple of years) went cashless because of the problems associated with cash.

$50 isn't the limit -- I believe it's $25, unless that has changed very recently.
It's pretty important that no one know about that cup of coffee you bought this morning, isn't it?

Likewise. I have a long and unique last name that few seem to have, let alone my first name.
That would be great if they lived on their own little planet. Not so much here, though, where I have to share it with them.

I put CFL's in the toilet once, and yes, they did fail.
Shopping at Walmart or Sam's hurts America. Don't be a jerk.
