2 years isn't all that long to go without a failure. Mine's 1.5 so far and nothing at all has failed (knock on wood), and I carry it around all over the place. I'd say 4 years, maybe. Most well designed equipment doesn't seem to fail until the day after the service contract runs out.
Kinda funny how everyone on Slashdot has worked for hundreds of different big businesses whenever they need to prove a point with very little evidence, isn't it?
Hey jackass, that does happen to be what I meant, as my university uses enterprise authentication. But, really, thanks for everything you've added to this conversation. What do I owe you?
Incidentally, in your basement, WPA-EAP is not as common as parent makes it out to be, but in universities, enterprise offices, etc. it is common enough to have generated quite a bit of traffic to the network manager mailing lists whenever a certain combination involving WPA-EAP stopped working.
The Eee ships without a wireless stack that can do WPA, or at least did. I worked on one for someone, and that was their issue. This may have changed by now, but it sure was a stupid move at the time.
My understanding is that the boxes cost the same, but I will double check that. The prices of the tuners go up from time to time so it's harder to track than it should be.
I'm 26 and remember our 43 MB HD, which was large at the time, which had to be partitioned into 33 MB and 10 MB partitions. I think DOS 5.0 had a limitation? Or maybe it was 4.0 and we didn't repartition when upgrading.
Can we get over the stupid fireworks thing already? It was explained right on the TV that the fireworks were not the actual fireworks. I forget the reason -- might have been for the view they wanted, it would have been dangerous to helicopters. The show took place, it was just simulated on TV.
I think buying a used 480p TV is an excellent move for anyone currently watching a standard def TV. The Panasonic I have looks a lot better than SD, and still shows SD content pretty well. They say that jump is the largest one anyway.
I actually have a 37" EDTV that I got from a friend for a song, so 480p is the best my screen can do anyway. Looks great, and it keeps me from buying an expensive BluRay player that I don't need.
People travel ridiculous amounts in the US too for their jobs. While 400 km is a stretch, plenty of people do drive 100 miles each way which is also foolish.
The noise of living near a train is really nothing. I've lived near one all my life, and after awhile, you don't even hear the horn anymore other than as background noise.
If you can't drive, living somewhere with no transit and no walkable options is a bad idea. It's not one's god-given right to live wherever the hell they want. I find it odd that Florida is such a big place for old folks to retire to, considering the lack of options for the elderly in most areas. But, I wonder if that's not because the same elderly folks are voting against it because A) they're still allowed to drive and B) it "brings the wrong crowd."
A lot of these problems would go away if we'd stop developing the US in such idiotic ways. Remember when older people could WALK most of the places they were going if they got too old to drive?
You did turn it on, right? I don't often forget moments later that I turned something on. I'm not trying to be a prick, but it's not really that hard.
My car happens to ring a bell if I leave mine on for a mile (which I do now and again in a long line of exit ramp traffic -- not sure I've ever forgotten outright).

"Parent" would be me, not the other guy.

I'm not sure I'd call Unitarian Universalist Christian, exactly. Christian roots, certainly... But I don't think I'd consider myself Christian.
Seems to me iPhone doesn't REQUIRE a contract, does it? You can use the WiFi on there too.
Something tells me 12 places is not enough for a representative survey.

Maybe it was PEAP/LEAP. That could have been what didn't work. Or use with hidden SSID's
Is this the same University of Washington of Pine fame? If so, it's a sad day for them.
I sure hope it stays that way. $35K is a ridiculous amount to paying someone with 10-15 years of almost any type of experience.

I think this one has gone over my head (as well as whatever I said that got my post modded "funny").

Not to trumpet my cable provider, but HD service is free with Cablevision/iO. Not everyone charges.

No, that's true. When's the last time a hotel that was blown up had 43,000 people in it?

There's a state where yielding to the traffic entering the highway is the law? WTF?

It is common terminology. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Ever used an Eee? Not sure there's a comparison. And Bluetooth for me these days is big.
If you agree with McCain on anything, you really need to find a therapist.
