    yes, it cedes control... they are claiming it's a problem because it could initiate a toll call...

    if the user installed skype and skype installed the URL handler, what is apple supposed to do? if this is being done via redirects, and the URL handler is different in the redirect, i guess they could pop-up a confirm dialog, but that would be very annoying if your web app used many different URL handlers like many content management systems do.

    like apple suggested, this is up to the 3rd-party application that installed the URL handler, but it would probably help if the web browsers passed along information about whether or not the request happened as part of a redirect.
