  1. Re:As a layoff winner... on Dealing w/ Draconian Severance Contracts? · · Score: 1

$1200 is about what I pay in rent a month. Only certain parts of Canada in 1200 near enough to survive on. It merely holds back the savings from vapourising on impact. Yes, I could move to a smaller place, but after a layoff, I challenge anyone to actually look forward to moving expense on top of that.

  2. Re:You all act like people purchased Windows?! on The Sad Parable of OS/2 · · Score: 1

For me, OS/2 was the first real software I specifically went out and bought. At the time, I had tried to get a pc without windows, and I was todl that the price of the system with os/2 was $200 more. But then I asked ahy I had to pay $200 more for a $200 OS when I'm not taking the default OS. The dealer said that windows was included but the contract put a windows license fee into every machine sold, whether or not it actually had windows installed. So, thus began my dual boot years.

However, with the dawn of affordable 10baseT, Warp never liked to play with my hardware any more.

    depressing really.

  3. Re:This is going to sell on New External Sound "Card" · · Score: 1

No kidding. Creative isn't exactly the textbook example of product support. Great that they are able to keep moving along with new products, but I think it's about time they FINISH work on some of their existing products. I'm still waiting to be able use standby and hibernate features without my live! card going south. Not to mention an "official" release that gives working AC3 passthrough (as promised), Liveware 4 (does everyone remember those promises of complete upgradability with the Live! series?), and how about making the live IR remote actually usable. I don't know about you, but classnames don't always translate nicely into filenames.

  5. Re:Relative gravity on NEAR to Fly Once More · · Score: 2

Is a shame that they didn't pack enough fuel to just give it one good shove back towards earth orbit. Might be nice to grab it on a flyby with a shuttle, and see if NEAR managed to keep any dust along for the trip. Sure, it wasn't designed to take samples...but it wasn't designed to land and take off again either
