  1. Information wants on Information Doesn't Want To Be Free; People Want It · · Score: 1

Information wants a new car and a townhouse with a full larder. But Information doesn't want to work. Information doesn't want to be responsible for itself. Information wants the world to pay for everything so it will never have to grow up and get a job to support itself. But Information is dreaming. Even socialist states recognize intellectual property.

The people who provide the most downloads will go to jail. The Fed is a little slow to get started some times but look out once they get started.

And there is plenty of space in jail for every one! We can always build more!. Just because tens of millions of people do some thing doesn't mean it is right or that the Fed will turn a blind eye to it. Just look at marijuana users. There are easily 80 million of them in the US. But that doesn't stop them from going to jail. Potheads don't hurt any one. It is a victimless crime. On the other hand, Napster steals revenue from artists and industry.

Yeah, these kids can go to jail too!

  2. Not! on Information Doesn't Want To Be Free; People Want It · · Score: 1

The Napster controversy is about a bunch of kids who don't work and can't pay for stuff they want. So they think the world should give them everything they want for free just because they want it.

Napster will be shut down. People who trade copyrighted material will be arrested and will do jail time. Some people may go for years without getting busted, but once the Fed decides to stop waiting it will be a lottery based on who give out the most files. Whoever's server is visited the most will get busted.

Read the Constitution of The United States. Intellectual property is not an afterthought like 'free speech' or giving women the vote. Intellectual property rights are in the main body. These rights form the foundation for our society. So you better get used to paying for the stuff you use, cause the tolerance isn't going to last. Every country in the world, even communist and Socialist states, recognize intellectual property. Only high school kids don't because they have never recieved a decent education and they are not equipped to judge these weighty issues. They just don't want to work so they imagine they are having some kind of revolution when they steal using Napster or Wrapster or Gnutella.

But they are just theives. Nothing special. And many of them will eventually go to jail.

AOL refuses to release the Gecko browser until the Microsoft case is over. They want to be able to whine in court that Netscape was destroyed by Microsoft when, in fact, Netscape is alive and well. Netscape has had a good standards compliant browser for over a year (Gecko). But Sun/AOL won't allow them to release it because they desperately feel a NEED to hurt Microsoft with Anti-trust DOJ goons.

Sun/AOL/Netscape decided they will never compete on product merits again. From now on Sun/AOL/Netscape will use Government Goons to do their competing for them.

  5. AOL Netscape sucks on Is Netscape's Code Falling Apart At The Seams? · · Score: 1

Netscape gave up on their browser when AOL would not use it. AOL wouldn't use it because it was not componentized. So Netscape produced Gecko. But they refuse to release it because they hope to manipulate the courts in the Microsoft antitrust case. No sooner than that case is settled AOL/Netscape will release te Gecko version which has been on the shelf for over a year already.

After the way AOL/Sun has tried to manipulate the courts to go after Microsoft, nothing would please me more than to see AOL/Time Warner heavily regulated in the Broadband access and in Instant Messaging and hopefully in other areas as well. Nothing could please me more except maybe seeing Microsoft get the monopoly ruling reversed after AOL becomes regulated. It leaves out Sun, the ring leader of the Gang of Two (AOL, Sun, Netscape)but I have a feeling Sun's comeuppance is in the works even as I speak.

  19. Linux has to get easier to use! on Market Share Reports On Linux · · Score: 1

Linux has to be as easy to use as Windows, or even easier. If people have to learn the CLI (Command line interface) then it will never catch on. If you have to be a programmer to manipulate the system then Linux will never catch on. Linux needs sound card support, 3D graphics support, easier network setup. (Easier everything setup.)

Linux is just to cryptic for normal users. Most people using Windows don't have a clue about the DOS CLI. And they don't need to. But Linux users must know how to use the shell.

Better support for devices needs to be there. If I want to code a game on Windows I have standard sound, video, 3D, networking, IP, everything is built in and standard on all boxes. So development is a snap. Under Linux none of those things can be expected to be present. So game developers have to start from scratch and write the 3d support, the sound support, and everything themselves. So development tools have to be better and hardware support needs to be better.

Until idiots can use it, Linux will never catch on.
