  1. book recommendation: Limoncelli on How Do IT Guys Get Respect and Not Become BOFHs? · · Score: 1

"The Practice of System and Network Administration" by Limoncelli, Hogan and Chalup has a great "read this first" chapter on organising yourself such that your "customers" are (reasonably) happy and you remain sane. It looks like in the second edition this has moved to chapter 2.

The rest of the book is great too, and I'd suggest your sanity is probably worth at _least_ $44.75 at Amazon.

Yes, Alef is definitely gone. They've included a library to provide the concurrency support that Alef had.

As to higher level language support, as I recall it was almost no trouble to get the Python interpreter compiled under Plan 9 2nd ed.

The "we" who may have the means for mass destruction in the future could be tomorrow's script kiddies. God help us all.
