It's the same with state tax commissions as well. Here in Idaho we had a person sitting on the State Tax Commission that owed several hundred thousand in back taxes, but he sat on the committee charged with investigating such abuses so guess how much of his debt he paid? He was/is a friend of the Governor too so I guess that should really be shocking.

A lower cost to build the plant is relative. Without the guarantees, the plant would not be built so in essence, there is not a lower cost to build the plant, there is only one cost which since lower is a comparative term it is invalid in this case because there is no comparison. That is not a subsidy. Now if the gov't wasn't collecting taxes due on said plant or was deferring its own collection of interest premiums then that would be a subsidy, but neither are occurring in this case.

The lost profit is to the bank at the expense of the company borrowing the capital, not the taxpayers. More to the point, it is not actually lost profit because without the lower interest rates, many of these businesses wouldn't even be borrowing any capital which would mean the profit would be... wait for it...

non-existent without the gov't loan guarantees.

The way you rail against it you'd think the nuclear power industry molested you or something. This is the point where you have lost credibility due to irrationality. Good day sir.

That is an extremely valid point and I think both are valid. I guess the backlash really speaks to the separation that most people have built up in their minds between the RIAA and MPAA, and the Media they are purchasing. Most people hate the RIAA and MPAA, but don't see their purchase of a CD, DVD, or iTunes file as direct support of these organizations even though it clearly is.

Another huge difference is the use of pseudonyms on /. over the real names on FB. If I want to say idiotic shit on /. I'm safe to do so and have every right to do so as I do similarly on FB, but I don't have the shield of AC on my side on FB so I can be held to account for my stupid shit.

FB users need to learn that they are not living in a secure enclave that cloisters their info and inane bullshit from prying eyes. You're on the fucking internet and whether or not you like it, it's out in public. If you don't want people to think you're and asshole, don't act like one.
