That's a non-answer as it tells me nothing on how to act. If this means we can't have nuclear power then you are by default kicking the problem down the path hoping for a solution to present itself before the problems of global warming are upon us.

Surely it's the exact opposite. Nuclear takes so long to build, and you have to dedicate yourself to maintaining the supply of fuel and the processing of waste for many decades, it's a long term commitment to emit more CO2. Depending on where you get your fuel from nuclear can be up to 110g/kWh.

On the other hand we have proven low emission technologies that can be built up much faster than nuclear. Best of all they provide a decent return on that investment, rather than being a money sink. People are lining up to build them, unlike nuclear where the UK has to pay the Chinese and French to do it for us.

I wish the USB keyboard protocol was more flexible. It's based on the PS2 protocol, which is built around a US keyboard layout. The OS has to translate US key codes into the correct local keyboard ones.

That means you can't easily make a fully custom layout, because you can't just send an arbitrary character when a key is pressed. At best you can pick an existing layout and move the keys around, and even that is a pain on Windows for the Japanese layout.

It's not too bad for your own computers but you can't just plug your fully custom keyboard in to a random computer and have it map properly.

If there is no deal the British citizens could need some kind of visa or pre-check to visit the EU.

There are other benefits we will likely lose either way, such as access to EU healthcare systems on a reciprocal basis. No need to get travel health insurance, just a free EHCI card at the moment.

No deal will have other severe travel consequences, such as UK based airlines losing approval to fly in the EU and British citizens with family members from the EU being torn away from them until they can arrange further visas, which is currently almost impossible for many in the UK.

  14. Go read up on how drones are used in Afghanistan. Anyone in the target area is retroactively designated a terrorist to justify their deaths as legal.

  15. It's quite possible that doing so would deter a war that would have ultimately resulted in even more deaths than this program *may* potentially result in.

But more more likely is the military using it to kill more terrorists with drones. And by terrorists I mean random people who happened to be in the area they suspect the bad people are. And by bad people I mean people that the US doesn't like and doesn't feel the need to give any due process to.

You could argue that Iran and North Korea having nukes would act as a deterrent and stop people dying. In the case of NK it actually may have. But would you help them develop those weapons?

  16. Is there no middle ground between silently objecting to what your employer is asking you to do and quitting?

Logical fallacy. There was a choice of two candidates, likely both would have continued with military action and killed innocent people, and opting for the least bad choice is not an endorsement of everything they do. Like all new nuclear it has the same basic problems. Unknown unknowns costing an unknown amount to put right, at a time when cheap and reliable sources of energy are growing rapidly and attracting a lot of investment.
