It's wonderful that some truly great games (apart from Quake and mindrover) are finally making their way to Linux. If this keeps up, gamers will finally be able to get rid of that MS partition. What worries me though, is that the ports seem to be trailing behind rather significantly. Descent 3 has been out for ages, and most of the gaming public has moved on. If the majority has already bought and played the game for Widnows, why should they invest in an extra copy to play under Linux, especially since hardware support still tends to be wobbly ?
Sony's electronic products may be respectable, but their CD rates are insane. The *retail* price for CDs distributed by them is now something like $16-17 (including VAT) in Europe. Substract from this about 0.15c actual CD cost and maybe $10 shipping, packing, handling, artist payment and the whole shebang and things are certainly looking good for Sony - and bad for us.
About the heat thing: AFAIK just about any light-generating device will change a respectable amount of its input energy into heat. When you start using IR lasers, this is even more fun, of course.:)
Actually, I re-read the article a bit more attentively, and they themselves say that heat generation is a a problem, which I take to mean that it is a *big* problem, since the tone of the article is as optimistic as the average lemming. (though a lot smarter, of course:) )
All right, so Daikatana sucks. No big surprise there, at least not for those who both follow and believe the rumors. Eidos loses money. Looking Glass goes out of business. What really sucks about this is that System Shock 2 not only looked better (IMO, of course) but also played better, had better weapons, better enemies (even though there were fewer) and had a stat-and-XP system that actually made sense and influenced the game.
I know I'm comparing apples and oranges a bit, but I get so pissed off when I think how many great games LGS could have made for the money sunk into ION.
I thought that the wide selection of weapons were just as good, and I thought better than any other fps that I had played.
While it's refreshing to hear someone actually saying something positive about Daikatana, this comment seriously bugs me. The best !? If you want a game that combines SF and fantasy, why not play System Shock 2 or Thief, both games by Looking Glass, and the products of Looking glass, which is where those bloody $26 million should have gone.

Too short ? Hell, no !
The rest of the CDs is filled with content, baby! Just look at Baldur's Gate.

How about Blake stone ?
:)
Not many people seem to have heard of it, probably rightly so.
