    If I remeber my sci-fi (and I damned well should) HAL was programed with 2 seprate and conflicting primary mission objectives. He then suffered failures in his ability to make dicisions. Then he kicked back into "save my own a**" mode, and killed the people who would shut him down. No "emotions taking over" as mentioned in the article.

    Please answer me this. How long does it take for something that has been eaten to get absorbed into the blood stream.

    The only effecive way to raise or lower blood ph is by holding your breath/ breathing into a paper bag (increases the CO2 level in your blood) or hyper-ventalating (lowers the level of CO2 in your blood).

    Hmmm, an anti-spasmodic bieng used to stop involuntary contraction's of muscles. I think the person might just have a point.

    Sorry for the sarcasm. Whatever the cause may be, drinking a glass of orange-juice is not going to raise your bloods ph in any significant level of consumption. And sugar will not nutralize the acid. Not to mention the fact that it takes more than a couple of minutes for either to start to get abosrbed.

    But then again compare those kids to most of the idiots out there calling themselves "Computer Professionals" (and I think most people are idiots, most slashdotters {is that an acceptable mangeling of the en. language} excepted).

    And you should try to get old compaq's to run linux (and X and esd ...) ;)

    Those are power cables not control cables, those little battries are mondo expensive if you are running 20-30 modules for hours at a time.

But until this "ideal" world comes about you have the right to ignore quesions, or if you want to ask questions to anyone who asks you questions. If you don't want people to get any information by port scanning you drop the bloody packets already.

    ssh is always a good idea but what is wrong with having an opie install for when you are on the road and can't install ssh on the term that you are using.

    Or, since the contract says that Marvel can change the terms at each renewal, Marvel decides that since the comics are becoming more valuable (for whatever reason) and make you pay 300 a year. And even if you made an agreement to lease the comic from them for 10 years at a fixed price, since you didn't read the Service Agreemen carefuly enough you missed the fact that they can change the price after 2 years and every sucessive year

    You would have the same effect as can be supplied with ir-vis-uv goggles. that is, you just crunch the middle and add the extra bits in. uv becomes v v becomes b, so on and so forth. It would be strange the things that you would suddenly be able to see. But that is no diffrent then strapping on a pair of IR goggles.

    I hate to sound overly critical but this sounds a hell of a lot like a patent on the X window system. Ok, so I haven't heard of a X window over CATV system but I am sure that people have used a client/server system of processing for a while now.

    I never knew that mis-reporting the possible end of a competition was slander.So,it looks like the SDMI will live after all.

    Even if there is a way to crack SDMI did anyone ever think that the SDMI group would admit that it's a lost cause, didn't think so. The claim that if they didn't hear about it first that it didn't happen is silly. If this logic wsa valid then then if you dont know something then it dosen't exist (remeber those cartoons where the person runs off the cliff but dosent fall because they didn't know what gravity was?).

    The problem with this "optical transistor" would be that it would have the lag/signal loss/noise of the photodector added in. The only way to determine freq. is to measure the number of electrons released per photon, or use a difraction grid. Neat idea though.

    New Nickel fuel cells are being created just for this purpose. The hydrated nickel is non flamable and needs to be heatedto >500 degrees to release the H+. Oh, and for the water powered car, I'll assume thats a troll.

    Acording to the RIAA

Punishment in such instances includes up to 3 years in prison and/or $250,000 fines. The NET Act also extends the criminal statute of limitations for copyright infringement from 3 to 5 years. Additionally, the NET Act amended the definition of "commercial advantage or private financial gain" to include the receipt (or expectation of receipt) of anything of value, including receipt of other copyrighted works (as in MP3 trading). Punishment in such instances includes up to 5 years in prison and/or $250,000 fines. Individuals may also be civilly liable, regardless of whether the activity is for profit, for actual damages or lost profits, or for statutory damages up to $150,000 per work infringed"

    Gnutella is a fileshare program but that is the only relation that is has to Napster. Under Gnutella there is no central server to be tapped and no real way to discover anyone past the first level of comunications.
