Sorry Jon Shaft, but you need to reread the story more closey.
He states that he is looking for something more then benefiting a company/making money/enjoying programming. The grammar nazi thinks that you are wrong, Jon Shaft.
Work on an open sourced project. We know that Mozilla needs a lot of help (seriously, it does).
Open source software isn't the typical 'feed the poor' or 'spend time with those less fortunate' project, but one could argue that free software does help those less furtunate then ourselves.
Definition: Michigan weather is defined to be lake effect. This is one of the rarer english language definitions. Michigan weather is defined as such because of lack of another definition. Snow in July and 80 degrees F. in January are all aspects of Michigan weather. This is hardly weather as other people know it, hence the word 'lake effect' is used.
I told our friend, CMiYC, to be more careful with his grammar. Surely he will take this advice and use it before all of his future posts. I can only cleanse Slashdot one user at a time and, even then, I can only do it in a preventative manner. I wish that there was a better way. Do you have any suggestions?
I don't know of any other open-sourced sites (this is the point of your post). I don't think that website code is as likely to be under the GPL because it typically isn't distributed. If someone comes up with good code, the don't distribute it, they use it on their own website.
Anyone with a little perl knowledge can go a long way towards making a slashcode site into a customer support, file download, or of course a news and events website.
Anyways, here's the slashsites in case anyone is interested.
Hey The Grammar Jew, why is this the first time that I've read of you correcting grammar? Are you trying to build up karma before losing it as a grammar corrector? A true grammar nazi doesn't need to build karma since his posts are enlightening and grammar-correcting. Positive moderation is the reward for the grammar nazi.
Are you supposed to be my enemy or something? Why did you pick the name, 'The Grammar Jew'? As a grammar nazi, I'm trying to cleanse Slashdot of bad grammar. I have no problems with poeple of differing races/religions. If you wish to be my enemy then please start using lousy grammar. If you wish to coexist and team up against the lousy english on Slashdot, then welcome to the club!

I signed up for the freedom to innovate network and sent the following snail mail letter.
To my legislature...
I am a big supporter of you. I've met your son, Todd, and I think that you are doing an excellent job.
I'm a littl e worried about my rights as a consumer. I know that large companies often try to avoid laws or break laws in order to maximize their profits. I realize that large corporations that do this should be stopped, hence I support antitrust legislation. Please, enfore legislation that protects consumers from large companies.
The purpose of this letter is to show you how large companies such as Microsoft make it so that it seems like they have public support. I joined a Microsoft "freedom to innovate" group with a fake name and fake information. If you actually recieve this letter, then you will see that the whole 'Freedom to innovate network' is hogwash. The large corporation Microsoft is putting forth propoganda that makes it seem like they have public support. They don't have my support and if you are reading this letter, then the whole Freedom to Innovate Network is compomised, because many other members may be doing what I'm doing and the membership numbers will not accurately reflect the people who think microsoft should be allowed continue its anti-competitive behavior.
The name/address at the bottom of this letter is correct, so feel free to send your reply back to there. Please don't accept the the Microsoft Freedom to Innovate Network. The only good that it did was sending this letter to you.
Sincerely, grammar nazi Actually, I used my real name and address here.
Whoa. I couldn't live without my command line either. When I was talking about the GUI, I was refering to window operations, scrolling, scaling, sliding, selecting. I don't even think 'windowing' or the idea of a 'flat-desktop' is the ideal type of GUI. I'm a command-line person, like you.
The grammar nazi would like to point out that proper grammar should not be an element of a nice GUI. As a matter of fact, poor grammar should not be an element of a nice GUI. No grammar or writing should be an element of a nice GUI.
A properly designed GUI should be free from words, consisting of intuitively positioned controls and interfaces (not neccessarily on-screen).
There should be no need for the language part of your brain to process what is being displayed on the screen.
What will your reply be to this post? I wasn't trolling or flaming, I was correcting fluxrad's grammar.
Now I'm going to correct yours... Excellent doesn't have two c's. You need a comma between personal and I. It's handled, not handles. Your last sentence has no logic; What does it mean?
At least fluxrad captured the point of my first post (grammar is important, I wasn't trolling or flaming). Why didn't you,/Brad?
Fluxrad, you are correct. I made a strong opinion and left it unsupported. For that I am sorry and I will try to rectify myself here.
At first I somewhat disagreed with your statement that Linux is a good place to learn about computers. After beginning to support my claim, I realized that I do agree with you, with a clause.
Here's some backround for my next comment: I exclusively use Linux at my job and at home. Personally, I prefer Linux hands down and I feel that Windows is annoying (to say the least). This isn't flamebait, it's my opinion. I used to work for an engineering company and we used windows for all non-CAD related computer activities.
Schools are a good place to use Linux because Linux supports programming for free. Linux may be lacking in software, but the simpler versions of Spreadsheets and Word Processors may be better for instruction since they aren't laded with extra useless features like so many of the popular applications are. Basically all of the software would be free for classes in programming, word processing, and web design/development.
Here's the clause: 99.999999% of all businesses use MS Office for their office applications. As an engineering student, I hear all the time that school doesn't prepare us for a job in the industry. At my engineering job, we sent all of our project emails out as PowerPoint files. No customers complained about that and understanding the finer suddenly-not-so-useless features of PowerPoint was a big help. I dislike that so many offices use MS Office, but it's true and the youth today need to learn how to use MS Office so that they can use it at jobs.
So, do I support your statement or disagree with it? I'm not sure. There was a lot more involved once I stopped correcting grammar and thought about it.
I noticed that you put much more effort into the grammar of your reply. For this, I commend you. I don't enjoy being the grammar nazi troll, but it's nice to see the hard work paying off. Thank you fluxrad.
gender 1 a : a subclass within a grammatical class (as noun, pronoun, adjective, or verb) of a language that is partly arbitrary but also partly based on distinguishable characteristics (as shape, social rank, manner of existence, or sex) and that determines agreement with and selection of other words or grammatical forms b : membership of a word or a grammatical form in such a subclass c : an inflectional form showing membership in such a subclass 2 a : SEX b : the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex
sex (non-intercourse definitions) 1 : either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male 2 : the sum of the structural, functional, and behavioral characteristics of living things that are involved in reproduction by two interacting parents and that distinguish males and females
This/. story takes me back to the following memory...
I was 10 years old and lived next to a rifle range. One year, the police brought all of the fireworks that they had confiscated out to the field at the rifle range. Using a backhoe, they dug a huge hole in the field and proceeded to fill it with the bounty. This was after they had filled their automobile trunks with and even given me some fireworks. One officer started pouring can after can of gasoline into the hole. 5 cans in all.
Finally the time came and one officer threw a flare into the pile. Immediately there was a huge explosion and all of the fireworks flew into the air with a ton of dirt. What happened next was cool! The fireworks were lighting, but they were going off in the air and on the ground all over the whole field. The police were running for cover, but they were being bombarded by dirt, exploding fireworks, and soon-to-be exploding fireworks. Some even landed in my yard which is at least 100 yds away. I'll never forget watching the cops run for cover while sparks, flashes, and bangs were going off around them.
What's the moral of this story? Cops are stupid! Just kidding, but those cops were stupid.
ugh. Since so many grrls are going to be reading this, would any like to go on a date with me? I'm kinda geeky, but I also like to go to Goth/Industrial bars, camp, bicycle. I'm from the Detroit vicinity. Reply if interested, we could meet up at City Club.
Please don't moderate this as off-topic until at least a few people have replied. Help me out here!
Even grammar nazis know that girls don't have horrendous grammar. Please try and show this by spell checking your comments. I won't be specific, I'll just say that you misspelled a lot.
I will, however, be specific about using the wrong form of met, possibly, and It's, starting a sentence with and, not using necessary commas,...(the list goes on)
I'll be honest with you, mayar. If you talk the same way that you write, then I don't blame the salesperson for doubting you.
Why would they restore the only known copy of the originaly text when they could just copy the text?

This is what eperlman believes, is it not?
Can one reuse an Iopener LCD? I fried one of my iopeners and have an extra LCD.

I'm probably being picky, but is it 'the benchmarks make you step back and think', or 'the benchmarking results make you step back and think'.
You're doing a good job CMiYC, but please be a little more careful with grammar.
The title (not tile) is fine as it is.
You don't need a nospam.com address. Use a nospam.nospam domain instead, like the grammar nazi does.

Grammar nazi bites.
You need a comma after AGAIN and a period after ASS. Don't use ALL CAPS unless you mean what you say.
