Don't know about you, but the first thing I do when I go into a game is map all the important functions to asdf jkl; secondary functions to wer uio and shooting or inventory switching to SHIFT-L, SHIFT-R, and spacebar.
I don't want some game maker moving all my keys to the center of the keyboard.
Ditto in applications. They already are specially mapped to control sequences. If you cannot memorize the keyboard shortcuts for the most used features of any application you use for a long period of time you have some serious long-term memory issues.
