Only thing wrong with the above is that FF has *not* broken the api, or changed it much at all. It's just that their plugin system relies on the version number, instead of, say, tests for isFunctionalityAvailable to check compatibility. So they have to edit each extension each major version... big pain. They need to fix it, or use a different internal numbering system(Like Windows does).
No, the only thing they "broke" is the version number. If you disable compatibility checking, loads of add-ons from ff3 still work, and ff4 ones *do* work. Even in ff7 nightly.
Uh, no. I did this for Nightly - downloaded one day's package, extracted it, setup my symlinks. Now, I can auto-update from within it. I'll admit I've had to manually upgrade once or twice when the updater broke(I think), but compared to the 50 times it worked right? Yea.
I've found that it's as much a matter of muscle memory as anything. I'm using two thumbs to do the typing, though for some key-combinations, I'm using the side of those thumbs as well, to speed hitting those keys. I do make a mistake once in a while, which can be painful to remove and re-write, but overall it *works*... Most of the time. There *is* a glitch on slashdot where sometimes the reply text-boxes don't seem to accept non-simultainious output - instead of hitting "alt char" you'd have to press them both at once to get the clternate character. Because you aren't expecting it, it can slow you down quite a bit.
Huh, don't know about the first bug(though there is a bug where you have to type each letter twice on ebay.com); The second was easily solved: I disabled auto-capitalization in the preferences... I can do a better job than it can, I'm sure.
Both, I'd imagine. I love my N900's keyboard, though it's only three rows. Makes slashdot posts decent, at 25+wpm. It'd be half of that on a touch screen, which would be intolerable.
Yea, that's true. I'd like to get my hands on the N950, but the N9 doesn't interest me. I guess I'll keep my OC'd N900 for a couple years, then upgrade to something with a 720p, 6" screen, hardware keyboard, and x86 proc, running Meego(which I'll then strip out for a Kubuntu Mobile/debian setup.
Either that, or say... using "+" instead of "." to concatenate the assword and seed string on PHP: In the former case, you'll simply get out 0 for(most) any string input, which would end up allowing any password to create the same hash.
And yes, I know from personal experience on that one... Too much Python previously that day.

That's actually a good point, but while not exactly unified, I know it's possible to set the power-on counter on linux(on some motherboards, anyway, by echoing the right value to the right device file. It's useful if there's no Bios method for sarting the PC at the same time each day, instead only being able to set it to start once.
I only had to mess with that on a couple of P4 Dells, not that it always worked quite right...
Well, in the KeePass case, it's still encrypted. After gaining access to it, they'd have to brute-force your (hopefully good) password. Of course, if you use Dropbox to sync TrueCrypt volumes, then you have a *second* key that needs to be broken.

Thanks to bios boot-at-specified-time, and OS shutdown-at-specified-time, this could actually be perfectly plausible.:P
Mod parent up! While I can't condone their actions, I see them as the canary in the coal mine: If we just ignore their message, China or some other country will be the next one to do it, and they'll do a *lot* worse.
As the parent post saidp though, the RNG wouldn't be tampered with - They might tamper with the bids(showing a lower pot than was actually created, keeping the difference), but tampering the RNG wouldn't help unless you had shills playing(which *also* might be possible).
Same with flash... But I don't see it thanks to NoScript blocking Flash and Media tags. I'm sure whatever output API is used can be similarly controlled, solving the problem.
No, but I *will* say that JS is a lot more stable(and faster to load) than trying to run a third party plugin, mainly because the JS engine has been tweaked to work right with that version of FF/Chrome/Opera; The plugin hasn't.
I too agree. Now, I don't often need to mess with the application volume if it's all I'm doing, but if I'm trying to, say, listen to music in addition to Teamspeak, then yes, I need to be able to adjust it.
And they're less likely to fail due to less movement etc. There's *still* P4's in use, though they are finally being phased out -- and then only(likely) because the PSU's caps are failing. Same with other hardware from the same vintage, like screens.
Not all corporations are created alike, though. While I'm not an Apple fanboy, MS has *proven* themselves to be extremely evil. They also have the marketshare to implement anything they want in their Windows os, and then force everyone who wants interoperability to some standard. Apple, on the other hand, has a fairly "nitch" OS, and even their phones aren't a majority of smartphones. So, no matter what they do to their phones, consumers can just switch to Android etc. As such, I would consider MS to be more evil than Apple, due to their influence.
So? I thought we already had a CD and DVD release: Give out one stripped-down CD ISO with one WM etc, and release a DVD with all of them and an installer that lets you choose(with pictures).
Sadly, you are right. Unfortunately, as an end user, I'd prefer a highly effecient plumbing system that doesn't back up and just plain *works*, than a piece of artwork that backs up every day or two, is a pain to clean, and just plain annoys the heck out of everyone who has to use it.

s/6"/less than 6"/g
Darn less-than symbol not showing up in plain text mode.

Exactly. Either sell them data caps(and advertise it), or sell "unlimited" internet and be prepared when users *use* it.
