As someone who maintains Cobalt servers on a daily basis I can say that this has been coming for some time. Sun has been very poor about releasing patches for exploits on the Cobalt server. These are fun servers to play with when you get the hang of it, but newer control panels (Plesk, CPanel) pretty much make them obsolete.
In the case of a shared account it's a little harder to setup. With a dedicated server you can simply turn off the port of the server, but with a shared account you can't just turn it off because it would effect so many customers.
Hopefully the people at Worldcom learned from the employees at Enron and diversified their retirement plans a little bit. The thing that makes all this so bad, is when the little people get screwed. Investing all your assests in one company has always been an iffy idea, but doing it in the tech sector right now is just silly. Here's hoping that the employees don't all get screwed.

Shouldn't you stop posting on Slashdot and get back to Waterpoint?
Go to amazon and see what other people have bought based on a music selection. I've used this before and found some great new music.
