If Apple or Microsoft donated licensed copies of their respective Operating Systems, that would also not be "FREE" publicity. I know this because a license for OS X and Windows both cost money. It is a tangible product that is produced and sold. A donation of such a product would have a cash value. It seems that some are insinuating Apple is the one trying to get the free publicity. It looks to me as if nobody here is getting the free kind of anything.
BTW, I would prefer OS X over any Linux Distro. I think most of the poeple who would be recipients of this device would as well; especially after that RPM vs. APT vs. YUM thread.
The next time I slip and fall on a wet floor, I'm going to sue the CEO of the company a thousand miles away for his viscious attack on me! Then, in about 15 years...I'll sue the new CEO for his viscious attack on me.
Can we get a legal scholar in here please? Sorry, but the buck(rupee) doesn't land that far away. Is the guy in the U.S. who invented technology used in the Chernobyl reactor decades later responsible for that accident? How about the CEO of the company that developed the tech? Why not the POTUS? He is the real top dog. He runs the whole nation and is consulted on every small topic!
Time to spell this out...If you have ever lived in a small municipality, you prorbably know about the fact that these municipalities are generally required to sign exclusive contracts with utility companies to get any real service. The contracts are usually 5 to 10 years during which time the infrastructure falls apart and the utility refuses to do upgrades.
But if 50 people in Indiana, PA want fast access or digital cable and decided to provide it to themselves somehow, the big company is suddenly very interested in keeping their business or just plain stopping them. 50 people in a small town do not constitute any competition to Verizon.
Please cite your instances of oil companies fighting against alternative energy sources.
After that, maybe you can use that internet thingy and that google thingy to see how much money oil companies are investing in alternative energy technology.
Finally, start looking at how much philanthropical donations are made nationally and locally by oil companies.
Thank you Gov. Rendell for proving that both Democrats and Republicans can be the Devil incarnate.
Gov. Rendell disagrees with the legislature and the bill but signs it anyway promising to personally help local communities to defy the law with his approval....?
For an encore, Gov. Rendell will legalize the molestation of boys but promises to personally protect young boys from molestation!
I am amazed by the number of people on Slashdot who consistently bitch about copyright and yet have very little basic understanding of it.
Back to school time!

Furthermore, I sincerely hope the "real commercial artist" you work with is not your friend. If he is, prepared to be strangled! Honestly! What are you going to do for your encore? Club a baby seal!?
The "restrictive" examples you site have nothing to do with DRM. You're confusing an audio format (AAC) with DRM (FairPlay). AAC has not yet been embraced as widely as WMA because Apple did not have as much clout in the digital music arena as Microsoft did when the iPod was released and because initially iPods and iTunes were only for Mac users. With the success of the iPod and iPod Mini, as well as iTunes on Windows, I think you will see that change over the next year.
Here! Here! And another thing...I'm not convinced that water is made of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. I mean, how do "THEY" know? They can't really see anything that small. I'll bet its really bananas and pistachio flavored ice cream. And how do I know the sun really exists? I can't see the nuclear fusion occurring deep within its core even though I can feel the byproducts of it everyday. That's it there is no sun!.... (and so goes the raving lunatic, muttering to himself as he wanders the sidewalks in the early morning)
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!!! And it somehow supports terrorism, and a Columbian drug cartel, and I've heard it can be linked to Kevin Bacon in one degree. What is the world coming to? It's almost as if we were living in one global closed environment, where everything was somehow linked to everything else? WOW! Wouldn't that be just wild if that were true?
Neither of the statements made by Amazon in the introduction of this story are mutually exclusive. This means they can exist as simultaneous truths. If the sum of individual intellect ranting about this "news" can not figure this out, my explaining it will not help you at all.
We should definitely all campaign to fight the corporate tyranny of the EVIL TNN empire! Get rid of Ren and Stimpy forever!!! Burn the footage in the vaults! Burn the books while we're at it! Let us all make a conserted effort to abolish everything in life that offends even one person...
SARCASM=OFF
Seriously, if you don't like the program, then perhaps you should not watch the program. This, of course, would be the decision a rational person would make instead of rallying the "ignorant" brigade to come and protest at a moments notice. It's just a cartoon. Not legalized murder! Sheesh...
