"As Do Not Track picks up steam and standardization is well underway in the W3C, people have begun asking, âoeIf Do Not Track is so good for the web, why donâ(TM)t you turn it on by default?â

Frankly, it becomes meaningless if we enable it by default for all our users. Do Not Track is intended to express an individualâ(TM)s choice, or preference, to not be tracked. Itâ(TM)s important that the signal represents a choice made by the person behind the keyboard and not the software maker, because ultimately itâ(TM)s not Firefox being tracked, itâ(TM)s the user.

Mozillaâ(TM)s mission is to give users this choice and control over their browsing experience. We wonâ(TM)t turn on Do Not Track by default because then it would be Mozilla making the choice, not the individual. Since this is a choice for the user to make, we cannot send the signal automatically but will empower them with the tools they need to do it.

Do Not Track is not Mozillaâ(TM)s position on tracking, itâ(TM)s the individualâ(TM)s â" and thatâ(TM)s what makes it great! For that reason we have no plans to turn on Do Not Track by default."

Clearly GP, and at least 4 moderators disagree. I do, too. Just because the Firefox team says it is so, does not make it so.

MS currently licence 2,300 patents relating to H.264 for 2 cents per unit. Google/Motorola want $22.50 for the remaining 50 patents it holds, per unit

Microsoft have entered cross licence deals for non FRAND patents with Android manufacturers.

That’s right. Just 2 cents for use of more than 2,300 patents. (Windows qualifies for a volume discount, but no one has to pay more than 20 cents per unit.) Motorola is demanding that Microsoft pay more than 1,000 times that for use of just 50 patents. And that is for a $1,000 laptop. For a $2,000 laptop, Motorola is demanding double the royalty - $45. Windows is the same on both laptops, and so is the video support in Windows.

This is unjustifiable on Motorolas part

If moto owns the patent they can charge whatever they like for it (so long as they charge everyone the same). They don't have to justify the price to anyone. If MS or Apple decides the price is too high, they can opt to not license the patent (and of course not use whatever is the subject of that patent). Just because MS and Apple may have decided to make their mobile phone business dependent on someone else's tech does not mean that other tech must be a particular price.

OTOH If MS wins this one, I may file suit against BMW because I think that the 6 series convertible should be closer to $200.00 than what it is today. I'll keep my eye out!

Doesn't that kind of contradict its-self? Even if AMD's software is buggy with newer GL, buggy doesn't equal "no longer any support".

It sounds to me like the cards would be supported, and might finally get some attention and bug fixes if the desktop were actually using the newer library and thus tripping on the bugs.

You have a funny idea of "dated". LTE was pretty useless in a lot of countries until recently so having it is really nothing other than a battery drain in regions with no or spotty LTE coverage whereas the 4S supports HSPA+ speeds in more countries and regions that LTE is offered.

The supposedly "faster" CPU in the Nexus is hampered by a combination of unoptimized software and poorer GPU performance. See the following video encoding example.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhu8zfIVZ40&feature=related

I never mentioned the nexus in particular. I'm pretty sure that every smartphone manufacturer except Apple has 4g products on the market these days. I said dated because 4g smartphones have been around since at least 2010 (htc evo 4g http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Evo_4G), so that puts apple about 2 years behind. In my opinion, 2 years behind in the tech industry certainly qualifies as "dated".

4G (well, LTE which really is still a 3G technology that American marketing droids have decided to wrongly call 4G) isn't yet available in very many places at all, globally speaking. Even in the US it's only in the large cities, and remember that Apple sells far more iPhones outside the US than in it. Plus given that the iPhone 4S supports HSPA+, that allows speeds that are more than fast enough for a mobile device already, regardless of all this 3G/4G/infinityG OMG terminology. (Remembering also that LTE comes with a tradeoff: rather crap battery life compared to HSDPA/HSPA/HSPA+)

Once you see 4G rolling out to more than a handful of places I'm sure it will be in the iPhone. In fact it will probably be in the next iteration due for release in the next 6 months.

I guess I'm just spoiled. In the area I live in, almost every carrier has 4g service. Even second rate carriers like Metro (aka Cricket I think) have 4g around here. It may not be "true 4g" but it's much much faster than 3g. On Metro (my kids have this carrier) they get about 5Mbps on average and on Verizon it's closer to 40Mbps (for about twice the price). That's faster than my fiber connection to the house, btw. Either way, both smoke what I've seen for 3g speeds around here.
