    Most decision makers in DN, DA, DAF run to the hand-holders [AKA: Proprietary Software Marketeers (PSM)], because DD components are dominated by highly certified and very poorly qualified technology-project managers. One project a colleague brought in to the company was promoted and supported by the government worker-bees and pack-mules, but after 12+ months of unsuccessful requesting/pleading for ".mil" domain dev/test and production environments ... The PSM came in to save the day and help produce a monolithic silo CMS/BMS/BWf/IDE... system to rule them all.

    The information (data/content) will never be "FREE" from vendor formats, hooks, ownership ....

    Cloud was appropriately chosen to help marketeers sell to those in management that live in clouds, confusion, obscurity ....

    The word cloud should be reserved for weather reports/conversations.

    Virtualization of infrastructure and web-services/application clouds is how I explain to management. Still I fail to convey any technology analyst/adviser... wisdom too money spenders, career managers, a/o decision makers. Telling management that a CMS is a CMS is a CMS ... still means windchill, filenet ... proprietary products are always the only available solution. I tell them Alfresco is a competitive CMS, but by then they forget what is a CMS, then decide only visiting marketeers with a sell, sell, sell ... agenda can possibly know the best solution.

    The past year has been the greatest technology disappointment in my career. I can and will retire in three years and look for a marketing job with a NPF.

    Note: There are still many real capitalist in the world, but most folks controlling law-writing, economic policy, a/o expounding capitalist values are in fact just Faux-capitalist with a "WhoopsFU" attitude.

    In a few years I will retire, my wife ask frequently where do you want to live?

    My reply, anywhere you want in the USA, except the western states that do not border on the Pacific ocean or the Mississippi river. Industrial agriculture not population density is the problem. So, Money or People? Money wins for more industrial agriculture and less people.

    A decade ago we should have started the great irrigation canal from the Great Lakes or Hudson Bay for those west-central states, but now folks should just move east or west out of the disaster area (to little as opposed to to much). If the project were private industry it would just carry oil.

    Industrial agriculture will feed the world, export food around the world, increase USA food prices, and food-stamp welfare will be an unacceptable burden on the national debt. Maybe we will have a USA national famine of plenty in 50 years.
