For most of the people out there running XP (not all) your machine is an antique. I don't care if it's "only 5 years old" it's ancient. The idea of people complaining about the cost of an OS upgrade is ludicrous. Shop around, you will probably find a machine that is miles faster than your current computer for less than $400. And if you can't afford that, maybe you shouldn't be sitting around using a computer.
"Yeah, since you're so adamant, why don't you cough up the 200 dollars or whatever it takes for me to upgrade? My old system runs perfectly fine." These are the same people who don't understand that Smog laws are there for the greater good of everyone. "I'm not paying for that new exhaust system, the smoke doesn't bother me. My car runs just fine."
I don't care how good your old computer runs. If you are infected with a root-kit, and are now spreading disease to my modern OS, your apathy is part of the problem.
This is great for the tech support community! Another non-intuitive user interface for the older sect (40 and over) of computer users to get lost in. I spend a huge amount of time rolling IE9 back to 8, showing users how the ALT key will bring back their beloved file menu, and reverting the task bar to the "classic" (win 98) theme.
I cant tell you how many times I've been called because a user accidentally loaded Media Center and couldn't find their way out.

HP MADE fantastic hardware... Most of the deskjet 1xx series printers still work!!! However anything made after 2004 seems to have the plague.
