  1. Re:Why can't MS be held responsible? on Code Red! All Hands to Battle Stations! · · Score: 1

All your points are correct ...

Plus: Free and/or open sourced software is generally issued as 'Use at your own risk, we offer no support/help/advice/patches unless we want to. Best of luck to you, see you in Hell.' Whereas Microsoft touts their products as secure and easy to maintain (load of crap).

What is true about MS software is that it is highly integratable and works well together, which is the exact problem of most of the security holes.

Oh well, I guess you could say that Microsoft killed the Internet, or at least opened the door for someone else to.

I like your analogies, they're right on (:

That seems to be a good way of doing commercial web sites. You know they're wouldn't be many people trying to grab the same domain, if it were broken down to that level. It would also give a lot more businesses web presence. If Plano, Texas, were to host a "Plano Portal" site (which could be done extreamly cheap) they could seriously boost commerce for their town.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone setup a system for everyone to have a hostname in their birthstate? It wouldn't take much of a data center to manage it either. Give everyone an email account and 10 to 20MB of space. There would have to be more identification in the host/domain to avoid overlaps, but I think it can be done. Maybe [first][middle][last][birthyear].city.state.us.

First off, the S2000 is no cheap Honda hatchback. It doesn't even have a hatchback.

I'm not refering to add on customizations. Look at the built in software packages. Microsoft's OS package includes the ability to manipulate the UI and even has a load of themes, with more to download from their website. Apple started to, but then dropped the whole thing.

And yes, I belive you are correct - I ment fascist. Apple is much like a dictatorship. Why would anyone fund that when they have so many better choices?

  7. Keep in mind on Apple Updates at MacWorld · · Score: 1
Apple is a company trying to make money. Their user base for the past 10 - 15 year has been people that just want something that looks cool and is easy to use. They don't pay attention to the market and who's doing what with computers. Once they've got someone "hooked on Mac" they can pretty much do what they want with their pricing. They keep it just low enough to pick up an occational new customer, but high enough to stick their old customer base for all their worth.

I don't care if the G4 is twice as fast as a P3 or Athlon at the same clock rate ... it costs more than twice as much. And so what if the case is "pretty", that's not what I'm looking at. I care about what's on the screen. The MacOS 9.x and previous interfaces were quite limiting (not very customizable), where-as the Windows interface (95 through 2000 and XP) and any of the UNIX window managers are super customizable. Apple's point of view is that you will have it their way and no other. Seems kind of communist to me ...

A price comparison if you will ... yea a Ferrari 355 will blow the doors off of a Honda S2000, but you can get five or six S2000s for the price of one 355. COME ON! The Honda stimulates my need just as much as the Ferrari, and I can get one for my friend too. Same with x86 vs PowerPC. I can build my own LAN party for the price of a G4 (:

I'm not saying that I won't ever own an Apple. I'd actually like to have a phat PowerMac all decked out with the latest and greatest, but I'm going to have a BAD ASS x86 machine first.

    More for the money, baby.

  9. Crossplatform Compatability on Porting OpenOffice To OSX · · Score: 3

I could be way off, but it seems that crossplatform compatability is the biggest deal here. I work in an office of 40 Windows computers and 25 Macintosh computers. We use Microsoft Office because we can share files so easily with eachother and people outside the office. All our vendors and clients use MS Office. Microsoft knows how to make software speak "MS Office" better than anyone else ... because they wrote it. And that's the biggest issue, being able to share with others.

Even if OpenOffice blows MS Office away, MS already has a strong foot hold that even the new people want to be able to communicate with, trouble free.

Wow an intelligent human being! Seems to be hard to find these days.

The basic thought trend here is that there is no one universal 'tool'. People need to choose the right tool for the job. We're getting too caught up in 'OS Cults' and not getting the work done most efficiently.
