    Also, this duke.exe defaults to c:\duke3d\duke3d.grp if there is nothing there it asks for you to tell it where the file is.

    The DEMO is the same location/name as the full version of DukeNukem3d but this will not load in the current duke.exe so you will get a bland "C++ Exception error" with no other text and the program will stop loading with some blank windows.

    Make sure youhave the real duke.grp file somewhere.

    For some reason, rusty built this borland project with the runtimes files turned ON. That means this will not run unless you have BCB5 installed and therefore the libraries available.

    I am talking about the DukeEdit.exe

    I'm not sure about you guys, but I want to continue my friend's work on the DirectX side.

    I suppose there could be a cross-buildable project, but who would want to set that up?

    I suppose it's going to turn SDL vs DirectX again.

    But, and correct me if I'm wrong electrum, we showed the original author this and he liked the DirectX version, did he ever see the linux port?

    Did you ever see the directX port made by Rusty Wagner? I'm not sure if it was ever released much. I do believe he showed it to the original engine author.

    It was less gameplay ported before they let it go, and more engine/rendering redo.

    Well, I'm not confusing it but I'm putting it into real applications.

    Some medications have SERIOUS side-effects, and they warn you of that, but if you don't like that you're the .5% that it happens to, should you be able to sue them because you're incompatible with their drug? But, they might not be super specific, but they tell you of course that if you're having blood/heart/any problems certain side-effects can occur.

    Hrm, makes you wonder about the new policy the administration is trying to put together that stops the lawsuit happy lawyers from oversuing doctors and causing them to (in some, not all cases) be unable to perform a practice without immense bills and stress.

    Just like with knives, you shouldn't completely absolve the maker from any responsibility with the knives, but should limit the extent to which they can be placed in the line of fault. I suppose the same should go for many situations.

    This might be redundant as I'm not going to read all the comments, but ...

    Why are they operating under different laws? Because the government positions people hold can be corrupted? Why in the world did they realize that about themselves and not about the workplaces from which they all came.

    No, I say it's the lawmaker's duty to restrict and balance that side of the power.

    Those checks and balances exist for a reason, and they should try do it.

    Actually, he has every right to enforce such laws that are made, it's the law makers who approve and disprove the laws that he enforcers work by.

    Have you read The Register's recent articles about harsh British information policies, especially those awards? I think everyone is starting to grasp at everything they can 'before it's too late', type deal.

    I've talked with companies like TI(Texas Instruments) about their similar reactions to user/programmer exploitation of their technology and hardware.

    They fought it as much as Intel and maybe AMD seem to be fighting it, but eventually learned to embrace it after the people just overcame all of the obstacles and programming limitations they tried to force on the system.

    Years later, they are utilizing this influence and interest by the user to promote products that are very popular amongst both end users and license/site users such as teachers and schools. It's become an invaluable teaming of these two rivals.

    Why cannot they simply see that consumer interaction is not bad but healthy. Not like these users are going to try and take over their business, they just want to find new uses.

    Have you tried Morpheus from http://www.musiccity.com/ ? It has auto-resume, search, multiple sources, preview-play, etc.

    It searches pretty fast and will link up all the available downloads to give the guestimate on download time/etc.

    I haven't found much wrong with it that I would stop using it when I want to find something. Just about everything can be found.

    Indeed, this restrictive thought pattern on these online companies is really starting to be apparent. People are trying to get whole sections of the world and/or whole sections of merchandise(ie, french against nazi) from online stores, and now this restriction on where a link to buy used books could be placed.

    Hey, why doesn't amazon.com just buy a new domain and market that as part of their network.. amazon-used.com or something.
    Also, why do we only hear about this stuff with online companies...do people think just because they are "seen" more to the world that they should be more restrictive? Many video store companies and others have "bargain pre-viewed" sections and everything, but we don't hear any complaints about that stuff do we?

    Well, the only problem with that is the integrity of the data being calculated/analyzed. Companies wouldn't want their data/etc just being thrown around 10s of thousands of computers perhaps with corrupted data being thrown back in by some mischievous kids. I mean, the whole idea requires a bunch of R&D, I doubt anyone as "greedy" as NetZero and their freedom fighters will spend the time on that...they just want to have a huge admin interface to peoples computers so they can "say" people are getting ads. -Corey
