They have all these commercials about the defenders of freedom and all that...and yet they get nit-picky about this "willy nilly" free use of simple windows.

  2. I have a question on More Silliness Over Patents: NetZero Sues Juno · · Score: 1

How does one or who goes about and finds if a patent is invalidated? Can it just be reported as a probable invalide patent? I mean, can just anyone get a patent and (obviously) no checks are made on them...and they can hold the patent until a HUGE corporation comes up with 20million dollars to back the case against them? -Corey

Wait, I don't get it. You were thought it was unfair the punishment you were dealt out? You were doing unauthorized(as silly as that sounds) computer access /etc. I remember a few years ago, we were in the computer lab to do some research for a paper right(this was one of those nasty IB research papers if any of you remember those days) and all the brower programs/etc were locked out (this was in win3.11 at the time for some reason) and the teacher forgot the password and there was no one around to put the pword in. Well, a friend and I noticed a little 'backdoor' through a few of the settings menus on one of the office pre-loaded menues or whatever you call them...well, we eventually get everyone access to the programs they wanted before the teacher knew about it...she didn't care, no body cared or didn't care enough to tell ... just getting things done and making things better is what counts right? Well, the rest of the week, I was asked to spend some time in the lab after/during school to setup some anti-virus software and make sure some macro viruses were cleaned off since some student computers were infected by transfereing data from the school...ever since then, people just ask you to help...always respect...you just have to know HOW to use your knowledge to help, not just to impress. I cannot go anywhere now without being recognized as a "helpful" computer expert...thats nice...annoying sometimes, but nice...and yes i do make money (programming though now). -Corey

I wonder how much they make off of a million+ person mailing system? You may think it is hard to reconcile/etc your email address....sure, but it is also hard to get rid of the spam...I wonder how many of these accounts were just for the spam and so wouldn't go to the main account. Hah, i don't blame them for stopping, thats got to be a real pain of a service to give to people. Why not stop now, instead of losing money to perhaps redo the system if they had come to that point and have no real direction for the future...it may just be email...but it is a business. -Corey

Why would they using such confusing names and then release...and then change the name in order to lessen confusion, while the new name was just as confusing...with the same problems and no upgrade. Oh well, I say their fault for the problem, if they are mad about the confusion, they should learn to change it to something better.

  12. Comparisons on Going To Space Inside Magnetic Bubbles · · Score: 1

I wouldn't mind seeing the comparison between rocket propulsion and electromagnetic propulsion (incluing ramjets, ion, etc)...based on cost, efficiency, speed and payload capability. The rockets seem to be able to carry larger amounts of weight, but they only go so far. Ion propulsion, takes less money and less full, but takes little bit longer. However, it can go faster and longer easier. (hence deep space missions). What is the use for this new technology? Obervation missions only or a long-span manned flight? I suppose I could research it more...but if it is anything like my electrostatic paper research...it is too much info :) -Corey

  14. Re:Credit on Red Hat Claims They Started The Open Source Revolution · · Score: 1
Well, that all depends. Sure, one could go make a great program/new invention and make it open source so that all the open source "followers" and "promoters" can ooh and ahh over how great open source has become...but that at the same time, Quake 100 could come out by Carmack and his simple 3 paragraph explaination of techniques and style may do more good than that whole 2million line program.

The focus shouldn't be on the greatness or even the idea of "open source" but rather "community". There are people out there that do more good by helping and writing and providing medians for people that they may never have had previously. And therefore, they can work and move along at a faster rate and produce various things. But, no matter what, they do produce and the community grows and people learn. If you want to yell about something, yell at how little the "community" has accomplished in relation to how much it COULD easily do with proper focus. I could read the whole Linux kernel source and still be no further along on my own OS without some explaination of the BASIC idea behind the code. And a median by which to try and learn about OSs and even a way to get the file out to test it. I tire of the arguments that have no meaning and the replies of equal magnitude. Make it count if you are going to argue the point ... at least do your part in helping. Not everyone needs to make their stuff open source to promote the community...but those who hog everything and give nothing back, create an ungrateful community. Cation, is all i can say. Don't get me wrong, i wasn't stating that everything is in this condition, just an observation and warning. An idea also.
