    Opera already includes this functionality.

It's particulary handy for sites that won't allow you to use them unless you are using a version of IE or Netscape (e.g. www.natwest.co.uk).

It's even on a handy "quick preferences" menu, so it's easy to switch if the occasion demands it.

you claim that there are "special circumstances where they may lie and cheat to catch a criminal".

    Surely this is wrong?

I expect court officials to be held to the standards (that is, not lying and cheating) that it is their job to uphold.

And what if this "criminal" is in fact innocent and they are simply making ill-informed presumptions - how does this help justice? I would rather 10 guilty men went free than 1 innocent man be convicted of a crime he did not commit.

End the pretense. Everyone should be held to the same standards of honesty.

This analysis of the situation in China is completely bogus.
China happends to have approximately 3 times the population of the USA - yet still only produces 13% of the CO2 emissions versus 20% for the USA.
A more "fair" comaprison pollution/GDP Per Capita, as opposed to your comparison of pollution/gross GDP.

The main problem is that the IMEI numbers are held in re-writeable memory.
There is no reason why this is neccessary - using a PROM or setting it by cutting links on the silicon with a laser would be just as good, but slightly more expensive. This would make it much harder to change the IMEI, and not require any legislation. Those who have stolen mobile phones have already broken the law, so are they likely to listen to another law that is preventing them from selling the goods that they have stolen?

  6. this is insane on 'Virtual' Child Porn Act Ruled Unconstitutional · · Score: 1

It really shocks me that legislation like this got so far. I find child porn disgusting. I accept however that information (and that is all an image is) cannot be "evil". The only reason why child porn should be illegal, morally is that children are harmed in its making. Hence how does making a "virtual child porn image" hurt anyone? why should it be illegal? it may be disgusting, but that is in no way a legitemate reason for outlawing something.

at my school (in the UK) they have win nt4 (yuk) me and some freinds simply placed a shortcut to command.com in a word file, and their whole security plan was wrecked (we could finally access the floppy drive properly!) We caused no damage, we caused them no problems. but they still saw fit to ban us.

i think that in such a system you should enforce geographical domains i.e. if you are in the uk you must us the .uk domain. .com should not be for the states...... perhaps .us/.usa. Being decentralised would realise more of the opensource ideas i.e. look at linux, its development is relatively anarchic, yet it is amazing powerful, and i use it every day. The same model could work for a global network.
