Researchers at MIT have developed a new type of Organic Light emitting Diode (OLED) using Cadmium Selenium Quantum Dots as the electron-hole recombination layer
Great, they contain Cadmium. Yet another device with heavy metals in it to polute our landfills and the environment. At least is doesn't have Mercury in it like Florescent light bulbs do.
Furthermore, the telemarketers pay for their subscriptions to the phone services so what right does the government have to interfere with their use of what they legitimately paid for?
So I can just call you in the middle of the night, 20 times a night and harass you and you won't be bothered? Even if I block my caller ID?
But the place is certainly not telling people what they can do with their own purchases.
So, I can just drive my car over you and anyone else, because the government has no right to tell me what I do with my own purchases?:)
I think there are more important issues to liberty, like how much money the government takes from our paychecks forcefully through withholding...
Duh? Because the politians implemented this! They still want to call you and harass you for money! Don't you know they are the 'ruling class' and get special privilages?
Actually, I have AT&T Broadband, formerly Mediaone and its on Road Runner's network. I think Road Runner may have been spilt up between Mediaone and Time-Warner or something. But in the Atlanta Area, everyone on AT&T uses Road Runner, from way back when it was Mediaone.
Yes, we are feeling that layoff in Atlanta. They also laid-off 150 people in the AT&T Broadband customer support. I decided to cancel my cable and get satelite a week ago. It took 3 phone calls and a wait on hold for 45 minutes to get that simple request done. AT&T is just digging themselves in to a lack-of-service hole. AT&T's answer to customer support problems??? Lay everone off and outsource all customer support to another company where:
1. The CSR's don't know anything...
2. The CSR's don't care...
IP's don't matter. With Linux and IP Masq. I have 3 machines on my local network. Potentially you could have dozens. The Linux kernal handles all the routing from the Cable Modem's single IP to all the local network IP's. And nobody on the outside can see your LAN IP's.
Can't run a Server with AT&T?? I have a Red Hat 6.0 Linux box acting as a Firewall and Gateway for several PC's hooked up to a Cable Modem on AT&T Broadband. They do give you a dynamic IP, but that's no problem, since I set up a DHCP client on the Linux box. I have also noticed that you can keep the same IP for several days before they switch it on you. You can totally run a web, ftp, email or whatever server using Linux on AT&T, its just not super useful, since you IP changes.
Hold time of 5 minutes for AT&T???? HA! Where do you live??? We have hold times in excess of 1 hour in Atlanta! And their email server bounces 1/4 of the messages my friends send me.
Agreed, the "WORST" support ever. Not only do you wait on hold forever, most of the CSR's don't know to answer any questions. That is why I have cancelled my AT&T Broadband Cable and my AT&T wireless. The AT&T Broadbad Internet goes as soon as DSL is available in my neighborhood. AT&T is going downhill.
Its really hard to pay attention to Katz's know-it-all, I'm the expert rants. Katz, I can't pay attention past your first few sentences any more. A hint, cut down on the rambling monolog and prose and make your writing clear, concise, and to the point. More people would bother reading it.
Don't sweat it. The same thing went on when I went to college. All it means is that you will do great at your first job and be recognized. On the other hand, the cheaters, when they get a job their lousy skills will forever doom them to maintenance programming.:)
One way I used to stimy dumpster-divers is I would a lines or a few lines in the code that really didn't do anything. Most of my professors would ask me about it, and I would explain that is was just a 'fingerprint' or 'signature' I put in the program. They didn't have any problem with it and most of the dumpster-divers weren't intelligent enough to notice the dead code. So, if I got pulled in with some other people for turning in similar code, I could always reference the 'fingerprint' without even seeing the code. This was usually enough proof to the Professor ( along with the fact they might have asked about it on a previous assignment ) that I wrote the program.
Another tactic is to obfusticate a part of the code to the point, only you can explain it and the only other people that can figure it out are the other good students ( that don't cheat ) and the professor.
If the assignment was to develop code from scrach and come up with you own solution, then it was cheating. I don't know what is going on in universities today, but when I when to school, ALL code had to be written from scrach, and thats what we did. In the end, these students are only cheating themselves, because they are looking at other people solutions, not coming up with original ones.
The only ones they are hurting is their own people. If the French government wants to control what their people can or can't see, they are just moving themselves 1 step closer to totalitarian idealogy.
Hmmmm,
I think the laws you metion apply to Taiwanise citizens. I have an American friend there who:
1. Pays no taxes.
2. Does whatever he wants
3. Comes and goes as he pleases
4. Never had anykind of ID card.
I think my posting was misunderstood. I did not say I would become a citizen of Taiwan. I merely said I would go there. And I would not stay there if I discovered anything I didn't like.

And they want my birthday and last 4 digits of my social!! For only 5-20 dollars? No way. I'll just buy used CD's at a fraction of the price.
Norway is in Europe. They still kill whales.
Polution controls standards are less on Europian cars, besides, I thought only 2 Europian countries ratified the Kyoto treaty.
Europian ships bought the slaves to the Americas.
British submarines have sonar too.
Hmmm, the Romans, who are Europians killed a lot of Germanic tribes to conquer most of Europe.
The British and the French killed each other in several wars.
Wasn't there this thing called "The Crusades"?
What about the inquisition?
Last time I checked, both France and Britain have Nukes too.
Europe (Germany) "invented" chemical weapons in World War I.
Hmmm, and the last 2 world wars were started in Europe.
If it wasn't for the evil US, I bet everyone would be speaking German right now.
No one is innocent my friend. Besides, most of use in the US came from Europe... ( not for much longer ).
Besides, the US makes all the cool video games and movies.
We are all bad. Every nation in the world has some blood on their hands.
That doesn't explain why things are cheaper. Do I hear Taxes???

I that why everything is more expensive in Europe???
Before you get mad - Just kidding
Duh? Because the politians implemented this! They still want to call you and harass you for money! Don't you know they are the 'ruling class' and get special privilages?
Big deal. Mass is behind the times. We have had a no-call list in Georgia for several years now. Where was Slashdot when that happened??

Actually AT&T uses @HOME, Roadrunner, and Mediaone's former networks.

Are you sure he didn't use 'CSOURCE'??
Damn Atreides and there Ornithropters! My Sardaukar legions shall make quick work of them...

We didn't have any debuggers. And we only got 5 compiles to get it right. Of course we are talking about Cobol here. MUHAHAHAHA
And your already unit testing your app, you are a little late to be considering a platform/language switch.
Use printf()!
