  1. Re:KaZaa -- what's in a name? on KaZaa Ignores Court Order to Shut Down · · Score: 1

In russian kaza (or kazaa) means goat. (Look it up in a dictionary, it has nothing to do w/ goatse.cx)

  3. 5 years for kids??? on Four Kids Confess to Goner Worm · · Score: 3, Flamebait

I'm a kid (Senior in High School...) and I've seen kids to stupid things (I've done some stupid things myself too). These things should NOT be punishable by 5 years (unless they are violent). Kids are kids, and then they grow. Putting them in jail for years on end isn't going to make them grow up any faster.

In the US, these same kids can just as easily steal a car, get drunk, and run you over while running a red light. Guess what? With a good plea-bargain, they'll get off in 5 years too.

What's more important, 5 years in the slammer for stupidity or 5 years in the slammer for killing someone? Get your priorities straight people...

  4. Re:Buffy Musical on The Tick Premieres Tonight on FOX · · Score: 1

The Simpsons and The Family Guy have been making musicals (much, much better ones) for quite some time now...

  5. Xterm + elvis on Java IDEs? · · Score: 1

I use multiple instances of Elvis (a light-weight vi clone w/ syntax highlighting) in different X/E/GNOME-terms. You may laugh, but it's one of the fasters ways of working... No overhead and I can open up as many terms as I want for all my 'cat'ing, debugging, or './build'ing purposes (my company works with Tomcat and Ant).

  6. Invalid SIG on Interim Response from Philip Zimmermann · · Score: 1

I just ran the signature @ the bottom of the article through gpg and it doesn't seems to be a valid signature from Zimmermann. Either the public key he's using isn't on keyserver.pgp.com, or Zimmermann didn't really write this... That or he doesn't know how to use his own products :-)

  7. Isn't that the point? on Study Finds Low Use Of Steganography On Internet · · Score: 4, Redundant

The whole point of stenography is that people CAN'T spot the fact that you're using it!

  8. Re:choice does not = censorship. on ClearChannel Plays It Safe · · Score: 1

Funny how they left all the most popular songs that are the biggest grocers off the ban-list. I don't see one rap, R&B, or pop song anywhere on the list, in fact most of the list is classical rock, pop rock, and to a certain extent, heavy metal. Does this imply that they think all Rap/R&B/Pop songs are pro-peace, anti-violence, God-loving happy-music? *Ahem* 2Pac *Ahem*

  9. L0pht... on Code Red! All Hands to Battle Stations! · · Score: 1

At one point The L0pht (now @stake - www.atstake.com) said to a Congress Committee that they could take down the Internet in half an hour. Maybe this is what they meant.

    Those silly hackers.

  10. Re:Katz hates it? on Review: Final Fantasy · · Score: 1

I *dislike* Katz as much as the next guy, but this is just insane. You're blasting his review JUST BECAUSE you don't like him. Can you honestly say that this movie was good, or that the acting was anything above sub-par?

It's perfectly fine if you dislike Katz, but just because of that you shouldn't automatically disregard every single point he makes. Your comments were just as unfounded and opinionated (not to mention hateful) as his.

  11. One other important function... on (Nearly) Zero-Force Keyboard · · Score: 1

So far all these ergonomic keyboards do typing, mousework, and the one discussed in the article even does gestures.

There's still however one important repetative function some of us do a a keyboard that no keyboard seems to be able to help us with :-)

  12. Re:confirmation? on Georgia Sues RC5 User For $415,000 · · Score: 1

this is where your 'traditional' media outlet - hegemonic or not - has the leg up on slashdot - they would have called the AG's office for confirmation before running an item like this.

Because we all know that traditional media outlets always get the story right.
