  1. Stephenson's Reamde and D3 RMAH on Diablo 3 Coming To Consoles · · Score: 0

Two major players in geekdom have visions for our future here, which is all about mixing paying and playing. I like the idea, because it elevates gaming from pass time to work time for some, and eliminates tedious grinding for those with the cash to spend. All in all, Reamde was kind of disappointing as a novel, but the ideas are interesting. I think Blizzard has been thinking along the same lines and I would not be surprised if D3 real money AH is a test bed for the MMORPG in development.

  2. Chinese shuttle heat protection is oak on Wooden Computer Accessories · · Score: 0

The infamous American space shuttle uses hightech ceramics to protect the ship during re-entry. The Chinese could not quite figure out how to adress that particular problem, so they plan to use oak.

"You're right that over time skulls (and womens pelvises) would need to change to reflect larger brains..."

Well, though i'm sure you mean to say that the female pelvis' bottom diameter is related to the size of an infants skull, it still reads as though the keep their brains at their hips.

  5. Long life means greater fear of death on Worm Lifespan Extended To Five to Six Times Normal · · Score: 2, Interesting

If we can live to be 500, we would want to live more safely as not to throw life away on a technicality. If it would be affordable to only a select few, which it probably will, the rich would take all sorts of measures to protect themselves: secure houses, clean environment and armed bodyguards, not to mention favourable legislation and furtherance of the gab between rich and poor. All in all, it would suck to be poor and to live among those scared shirtless of death methusalems... pardon the spelling...

  6. Re:Help Me Here--some novice Questions on Cassini Experiment Confirms General Relativity · · Score: 0

Falsifiable, simply put, means that you have to be able to prove something wrong in theory. The implications of this is, however, not clear to me.

  7. Re:NEWS ALERT (Summary) on How Much Does A Cloud Weigh? · · Score: 0

Yes, the physics of this has been very well explained but has it dawned on anyone(in a red wawelength kind of way) that what we disagree on is human experience vs. fact of physics? The two are incompatible.

Clearly (on a cloudless day), certain observable mechanisms make the sky appear blue in our eyes. But is it meaningful to discuss whether things even have colour outside human perception or not? Imo, well - yes, but we cannot discard the fact that the sky is blue on grounds of convention (be it physics or semantics or philosophy)

To hold your hand up high and by the power invested in you by almighty God, you declare the sky (cognetive metaphor) to be either blue (metaphor for certain wawelengths) or transparant is silly. Visibly, the sky is blue. Physically, it has certain properties that make it seem blue - be it transparant. Philosophically, Descartes.. where the heck are you?

Pardon the spelling - I'm Danish (though not a doughboy)..
