    True, though it doesn't do much for the existing problems. Also what happens when your downstream wants to multihome? Does he get his own /64 (heh heh) or whatever or does he announce a subset of your space? I'd vote for the former, but I haven't seen, which way their leaning.

    Yeah in the 2501 which was EOL'ed in 96 I believe. It was replaced by the 26xx series

    Because it's so damn silly it does not require anything more then a "You're a nutcase. How'd you get in here." If you don't know that already I'm not going to explain it. Second backbone routers provider TRANSIT, so it generally needs to know all routes to all places, hence the problem. Neither this nor IPv6 does anything to relieve this. If anything releasing more space ie IPv6 will make the problem worse.

    Unfortunately these guys didn't actually inspect the entire Internet. So they have no idea about the faliover circuits, routers, paths, etc. Take my network. Normally you route through an one of two OC-3 to get one site. If one router/circuit fails OSPF changes to use the DS-3 on another router. You can't see this route while the OC-3 is up.
    Fortunately your average attacker could only kill one larger router/access point at a time. Even the last DDOS was only beating on Yahoo, ebay, etc individually IIRC. Not to mention that network infrastructure is quite a bit harder to take down then a web cluster.

    If someone hires you as their consultant then
    that should mean they are not stupid since they
    hired YOU to do their thinking for them. This
    is completely counter to idiot users and managers
    who tell you the admin/engineer how to do your
    job. Of course if said client refuses to listen to
    you... well that's another story.

    Except that most of us who take running a network fairly seriously knew about it on 1/26 and upgraded immediately. 16 total servers. If we can manage that, most of the guys with 1 and 2 servers can patch theirs.

    You don't read Kernel Traffic very often do you?

    While true I myself (a non coder) can say Linus is God, you'll find that the other Linux gods (AC, TT, AA, etc) are quick to argue if they don't like the way things are done.

    Their opinions matter, fucking BIG COMPANIES can go screw. If you can understand kernel internals you get an opinion that Linus will respect even if he choses not too implement. "Interested parties" is another word for groupies more concerned with buzzwords then code.

    Did you actually read the article before posting?

    A war room seems to be a common room where you don't have to walk down the hall to find the answer to something. We do it at the ISP I work for. I fix several things a day just by overhearing what the Jr guys are planning. If I was in my own seperate office, I'd have to fix it after the fact. It's about better communication and "ambient learning" (or whatever you wan to call it) then penis power. Sheesh.

    Of course I never worked for "the man". But even indie ISP's have this stuff. It's a little more friendly and you can actually have 15 minute breaks.

    The rules of tech support
    1. Always assume the customer is lying.
    2. Always assume your company lies to you.
    3. Never test for more then one variable at a time.
    4. Learn to smoke. The deeper and raspier your voice is the better. Nobody fucks with you when they think you're 35 and 6'4".
    5. Never show fear.
    6. The customers is stupid. If he knew anything he wouldn't need to talk to you. Never deviate from this stance.
    7. MCSE ALWAYS need to be smacked.
    8. Some people want help, some want to abuse you. Don't take it personally.
    9. You won't last more then 18 months. Keep the resume updated.

    Did they have to cut every single scene that did any sort of character development to little pieces? I got so annoyed after that farce of a dinner party I turned it off. Princess Irulan? What the hell!?! I actually started to like the movie after sitting through an hour and a half of that crap. And the Gurney/Paul fight scene. Could that have been butchered any more then it was.
    The writers probably sat down and said, "Hmmmm, too much character developement happens hear, as well as some really good dialog. Let's cut it down to 10 secs of crap, so we can have Paul call House Harkonnen pigs later on."

    hahahahhaahha this is sooooo dumb. Why? Because most of the time the money you are going to get is huge. Most companies refuse to do large pay increases to employees they have already hired. Why should they pay me 25k more then the 40k they hired me for just because I moved up from routing dude to routing diety? Of course I can go somewhere else and get 80k easily. So I'd get charged 2k for training. I'm STILL laughing all the way to the bank. Not to mention I'd be in posisition to neogitate more vacation, flex time, training, and a signing bonus. Businesses like you are asking to get taking to the cleaners.
