Other than some floppy drives that are still floating around here, the oldest computer I'm still using is a 7043-140 43P RS/6000 from about 2000. The design is from 1998-2000, so it was produced at the end of the run. It's a PowerPC 332Mhz 32bit RS6k. It runs great as a lightweight firewall/squid server, that combined with it's integral 24 gigabyte tape drive really makes it a bargain. Check ebay. I bought mine new-in-the-box for about 250 bucks.

Check out the DC Hunt, it's a similar scavenger hunt/trivia game/bar crawl.
No website that I can find, however, as it's organized each year by the team that won the preceding year's hunt.
This is similar to what I noticed. I upgraded a 750Mhz AMD to a 2400Mhz Pentium IV. I did see a reasonable improvement in the speed of the machine at first, but it was apparent to me that the big bottleneck was with the disk IO. Once I upgraded the hard drive to match the MB specifications (100 or 133 ATA), the full realization was possible.
I know this is probably redundant (and thus knowing should bother posting), but the advantage of the open source projects is that the flaws can be exposed before they are exploited, and in doing so, repaired by interested parties.
This evaluation of the projects in the domain is an important part of the development process.
Posting this to slashdot is actually a public service, as the exploit description will be/.'d and unable to effectively be disseminated to the bad actors.

That is, of course, after you show two forms of picture ID, at least one showing you with a beard. According to the government, you have to make about 9 dollars an hour to break the poverty line. That makes the minimum wage pretty horrible (at what -- in Maryland 5.15 an hour).

Slashdot: A mix between a peer review journal and "bum fights".
The most honest assessment of Slashdot ever made.

Determine requirements, Design, develop, debug, evaluate (lather-rinse-repeat).
So, this is a natural part of the open source process. On with the show, I say.
