  1. Grass on the other side on Second Thoughts: Microsoft on Trial · · Score: 1

I have to admit that, objectively, M$ does seem like they're getting the short-end of the stick. And, yes, if it weren't for their blitzkrieg the Open Source community may not be what it is today. However, let's take a look at the bad-ol-Billy and his software... M$ Office will register the MAC of your NIC when you save a file, thus, if any M$ official (if that's what you want to call them) wants to know where you are and what service you're running they have your MAC and can trace you from there. (Are your security holes plugged?) I for one don't want anyone, especially M$, poking about my system. What ever happened to privacy? How many times have you had to fix your M$ box by re-installing the OS? More than five? More than ten? And what's up with those .dll files that take up five gigs of space to run your 3D card? If you want to take it to the extreme, M$ and their 'closed source' of the OS and applications are what are giving hackers bad reps. All we nerds want is information. That's why God gave us those little Radio Shack Electronic Kits. (Remember building a radio with the coloured wires?) That's why it's called Information Technology Bill.

  2. Violence in Society on Soldier Of Fortune: Must Be 18 To Play · · Score: 1

So they want to censor games that depict wanton and gratuitous violence. We need to address a few things first...

Why are they doing this? It seems that they're trying to protect influential minds from such gore, which, in a sense, is a good idea. I'm sure if I had kids I wouldn't want them playing a game that teaches them to kill. Of course, on the other hand, if you look at the six o'clock news, there is violence in everyday society.

How will the censorship help? It's not just the censorship that works; We have to help out the people we're looking to protect. If we just put in a label that says 'This game is gory', it won't work. Educating children if you are a parent or guardian is the best bet. Even if you let your children play the game, tell them that this is not real and that violence is not the way to solve problems in the 'real' world. Let your children watch the news with you and explain what is happening. This way here, you are not only protecting your children, but educating them as well.

Whether you agree with censorship or not is your own personal matter. Protecting our society from real-world violence takes everyone.

  3. Penta-who? on Intel Announces Pentium 4 · · Score: 1

Granted Pentium is a kewl word to say (Like Salsa) but c'mon Intel, let's get the dictionary and start lookin' for a new word. Pentium means five. FIVE. Not six, seven or eight... FIVE!

Sequels never make it. Look at the Friday the 13th series... Friday the 13th, Jason goes to Euro-Itchy and Scratchy Land. Let's look at the Pentium: Pentium 4, Yes We Can Count But That's All We Can Do!

Maybe I'm just a geek like the rest of you, but I think Intel needs a new name for the Pentium. Like the Penti-DOH! or i.hate.really.long.fully.qualified.domain.names.in tel.com Or how about just a sound effect so everyone that goes to purchase one has to make a noise. At least that way there it's entertaining.

    Pentium... Pfft...

  4. Recursive Calling on Creating BSODs? · · Score: 1

I don't know if this will work in NT, but with '9x if you Start --> Run --> C:\con /con it will cause indefinite BSOD's by recursively calling 'con' within itself.
