It just seems rather silly. Whatever the plan to profit off of regular users, it surely can't be from their images. If they analyze the images to try and learn about the users that's one thing, but to sell user images as some sort of stock photo library? How much could Instagram possibly make from user photos? They never needed to take control of the images to make money of the users so I don't know why they even tried.
I was thinking this when I started reading his post, but then I actually read and comprehended what the poster said. He was talking about javascipt because we download javascript code and execute it without any warnings and that isn't a problem.
Stop yelling about javascript and java being unrelated. We all know it, and it doesn't help any discussions. The people that don't know they are different probably won't have a lot of insightful comments on threads about languages.
They own the... smartphone market. They also have a lot of cash sitting around, that isn't locked away.
I think it is not a certainty that Apple owns the smartphone market anymore, depending on what you mean by "own". There is a lot of competition and numbers are quoted and debated here regularly.
In addition, that cash that they have is locked away. I believe a large amount of it is overseas and if they were to bring it back into the US, they would have to pay a rather large tax bill on it.
Is the PE ratio that you are looking at based on trailing twelve month earnings? Perhaps investors think the future earnings will decrease giving them a perceived higher PE multiple.
I personally don't like the idea of investing in AAPL. It's too heavily traded by people that don't know what they're doing and can cause massive price swings up or down.
Well, mister AC, you could try and do some analysis on the company and determine your own valuation. Then you could actually see if the market was overvalued or is now undervalued. People that don't come up with their own valuations and basically bet on a stock are the people that I keep hearing complain that wall street is just a big casino.
I believe our founding father's believed, above all else in government, that this government would be of the people and that the structure setup would ensure that it would stay that way.
Don't be daft. The founding fathers knew full well why independence from England was wanted, and they knew full well that those same reasons could arise again. It's not like England was a lawless wasteland that wouldn't be around for much longer because they didn't have the magic words that were in the US constitution.
Exactly, report the news and don't have all the follow up pieces.
If there was a shooting today, report that, say where and when and if the guy is no longer a threat. Then stop. Don't spend the next several weeks digging into some losers back story. Eliminate the tabloid sensationalist BS and get back to reporting facts.
McVeigh is a perfect example of this. This was his exact motivation, a tyrannical government, but do you see any huge support for his actions? Of course not.
If there is a tyrannical government, nut jobs won't need to drum up support, the people will already be against the government. In that kind of situation a single attack against the government would be followed by others as pent up rage and opression is released. The fact that there wasn't any support for the OKC bombing just shows that we don't have a tyrannical government, or at least not bad enough to make people want to risk their lives to stop it.
This is exactly why smart guns are a terrible idea. Who would have the ability to turn off all the smart guns with a single command? The government. Imagine being able to disarm one of the most heavily armed citizenry with one command. Does anyone see any potential for abuse there?
Just assuming all your points are correct, and the bottom half of the country can't pay taxes. I assume that is because they just can't survive on their current incomes and pay taxes. Does that sound like a situation where the people that can pay should pay as little as possible and cut every social program we can find? That is surely a fantastic way to get the bottom 50% to make more money and be able to pay their share.
... they don't want to carry the bottom 50% (and they are right)
When did it become right to not help other people? When exactly did we reach the utopia that you preach about where people collect their wealth and give nothing back to society?
Credit card processors usually have a percentage fee plus a small per transaction fee. For example, PayPal (not my first choice, but they can be used for payment processing) takes 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction. They claim that you can get down to 2.2% with larger volume, but the 30cents is firm. If you are making transactions for $1 at a time, the 30 cents will eat you alive. At those rates the Apple cut is a good deal just for payment processing.
If you are selling a $5 app, that 30 cents just became a much smaller percentage of your costs. Payment processing would now be in the realm of 9%. The rest of the 21% Apple cut is probably fair for the distibution, servers, etc. Not too bad a deal.
I notice that a lot of your listed items are things that have already been released. I don't see how that refutes a claim that they have nothing in the works.
A bit more seriously, having skimmed the wikipedia article, atoms (as we know them) cannot have negative temperature. It is an awkward property of unfamiliar matter types.
Having skimmed the summary, someone seems to have found an atomic gas with a negative temperature.
This is a fantastic point. Modern games are not so much games as interactive cinema. If they were to focus more on the game play and less on the audio/video production they might be able to make a little more profit.
Looking at the list, GT actually gets similar numbers of applicants to those other schools. It just happens to have a larger acceptance rate, because it's a rather large school and it's focus is almost exclusively tech degrees.
As a Tech grad, I'm just happy to see it make a list.
I'm not sure if it would help reduce spending by simplifying the tax code. It would make it harder for politicians to pull misleading values out of the tax code (like the effective rate some corporations pay) and push the focus on to the actual spending of the government.
Tax avoidance is not the correct solution. It benefits those with better knowledge of tax law and how to avoid paying. It would be better to simplify the tax laws to prevent the ability to avoid taxes. Then, if the simplified tax laws are bringing in too much money, lower the rates.
Possibly because Belize doesn't have enough evidence to bother filing a warrant. If they were able to talk to him, they might have gotten the information they needed, but they didn't get to talk to him.

The First Amendment applies to people, not Watson.
On the contrary, if I had a couple of dozen kids I think I'd be glad to get rid of a few of them.
Or maybe using them for a skeet shoot.
Oh, the irony of buying back violent games to prevent gun violence and then disposing of said games with gun violence.
Last I heard minors can't give consent, so what's not clear cut?

I am appalled that you can not see the utility of a fart app.

That's amazing that this "teenager" mellon was able to get a 4 digit UID on /.
/. that long ago.
He probably drugged his parents to get on
yeah, "macs4all" is a totally unbiased user.

And I should be able to trademark the term "Clothing Store" for my store that sells clothing.
App is a reasonable abbreviation for application, a standard product name. An "App store" sells apps.
