    I wish it was always Republicans. It isn't. We have plenty of liberals running around contesting mature science in things like vaccine effectiveness and GMOs.

    Ignorance and stupidity is bi-partisan.

    Rear view mirrors don't let you see the space obscured by the trunk, and side view mirrors cost $$$ due to aerodynamic drag.

    I love the idea because I think I'll get a wider field of view and better nighttime rear vision.

    The worst period for the NJ DMV was after Whitman outsourced it in 1994.

    It was so bad you had to line up before opening to get served before 4PM when they shut down. They didn't care if there were people who had been there 8 hours - at 4 they just walked away. I actually know people who had to wait all day multiple times to finally get served.

    Christie wanted to go back to outsourcing but fortunately the legislature refused to agree because the previous time outsourcing was tried it was a complete disaster.

    The DMV in New Jersey was fine before Christie was elected. Since election he put through a series of budget cuts that have de-staffed the DMV to the point where you can count on long lines and excruciating service.

    There is an interesting map regarding economic class mobility by state that I think is the ultimate reason why you don't want a Republican state government.

    We don't have hundreds of millions of square miles of fertile undeveloped land any more. There just isn't a need for indiscriminate immigration any more.

    The first immigration laws were passed in the 1870's, long before America achieved her current status as a superpower.

    There is something fairly wrong with this article, as it's generally believed that the costs of decommissioning a nuclear power plant are on the order of 300-400 million. 600 million should be adequate.

    It isn't. Long term investors are looking for price changes from 20-200% between trades. HFT is making money in the .1% range which is basically in the noise band.

    Even then a reasonably intelligent investor has some tools he can use to protect himself from the worst front running - pay attention to the spreads and use limit orders.

    When I want a print I upload my digital image to a large photo shop, who then return the prints by mail.

    No need to waste oil by driving someplace.

  15. The only reason the Republicans have a fighting chance in 16 and 20 is because the electoral college arrangement gives them a slight advantage.

    In the popular vote they have no chance.

    Heck, if the Presidential race were decided by popular vote GHWB would have been the last Republican President. GWB would have lost in 92.

    Titanium would be the one for this. It's the most reactive metal, the only thing known to burn in pure nitrogen.

    Under normal conditions it doesn't burn because it forms a tough oxide layer by rapidly reacting with water vapor in the air. But do something to expose a lot of bare metal and yes it will get interesting.
