  1. Re:WordPro Filter on IBM Challenges Microsoft with Free Office Suite · · Score: 1

I just downloaded Symphony, and it claims to be able to import Word Pro files.

I don't have any to test, though.

  2. Re:WordPro Filter on IBM Challenges Microsoft with Free Office Suite · · Score: 1

My understanding is that there isn't any documentation for the WordPro format, other than the source code for WordPro. So while people have often requested WordPro import filters for various products, it has always been shot down as too expensive a proposition considering the very limited user audience. (I don't think WordPro ever got more than 2% market share.)

ODF is clearly the way forward, being supported by Symphony and Workplace as well as OpenOffice and KOffice.

(Opinions mine, not IBM's. I'm not in WordPro development, so the above is hearsay.)

Now that Google have got a Presentations module, I hope they'll go back and make the word processor usable.

Right now it doesn't have proper support for paragraph breaks, which makes it utterly useless for serious word processing.

Find me another audio player which:

    • Has good sound quality (please cite reviews)
    • Has a capacity of 80GB or more
    • Plays MP3 and MP4 audio
    • Has an easy to use UI
    • Fits in a pocket

...but doesn't require proprietary software, and I might switch.

If you can't find one, then you've answered your own question.

Because they won't sell us the media. If I could buy a subscription to the BBC's channels, I'd do so tomorrow. They can't or won't sell me such a thing. Even shows that are available on DVD are often only available in the UK. As such, my sympathy for the "What if people overseas see the content?" argument is slim to none. If you won't sell it to me, I don't believe you have any moral right to complain if I copy it illegally.

Similarly, I always found myself hitting the point of No Fun at around 13th or 14th level. Actually endangering a character at that point requires scenarios that stretch credulity. So I always used to retire characters once they hit 14th.

The "sweet spot" for me has always been around levels 6-10.
