My understanding is that there isn't any documentation for the WordPro format, other than the source code for WordPro. So while people have often requested WordPro import filters for various products, it has always been shot down as too expensive a proposition considering the very limited user audience. (I don't think WordPro ever got more than 2% market share.)
ODF is clearly the way forward, being supported by Symphony and Workplace as well as OpenOffice and KOffice.
(Opinions mine, not IBM's. I'm not in WordPro development, so the above is hearsay.)
SmartSuite has been "maintenance only" for at least a couple of years now. No new development is planned as far as I know. That said, I'm not in product management, so this is merely informed heresay:-)
Unfortunately, every time I've ended up at CD Baby, the CD has been priced at $13 + shipping or worse. There are even $30 CDs. So Trent's cited pricing issue may not be solved by CDBaby.
Name a few. I'm currently using a 20GB iPod, but I'm entirely open to the idea of upgrading to something more open, with better battery life and better sound.
In the article he says he launched the GNU OS in 1984 and seven years later a kid from Finland blows right past him. What was Stallman doing during those seven years?
Building an entire compiler tool chain, a standard C library, a shell, and a complete suite of standard Unix shell utilities.
Without all those things, Linux would still just be a replacement for the MINIX kernel.
Err... You're forced to buy a hard drive either way to play FF XI. No PS2 came with a hard drive. I'm simply suggesting SquareEnix should have provided a hard drive option for slimline PS2 users, as well as the hard drive option for old PS2 users.
Yes, and my point is that SquareEnix should maybe have come up with an alternative. Like an external USB hard drive plugged in to the slim PS2's USB port.
You don't have to leave anyone behind when you leave LiveJournal. Just set up your new site to support OpenID and Atom feeds, and all your LJ-using friends can log in to your site and comment, and subscribe to your journal.
Simpler would be a virus or worm that wiped out the WGA info on the client PC. If you could use an IE exploit to run the code, people could spread it across the net. I'm somewhat surprised this hasn't happened yet.
The problem is why should UK taxpayers pay for people in other countries to have free media that they didn't pay for?
Because they won't sell us the media. If I could buy a subscription to the BBC's channels, I'd do so tomorrow. They can't or won't sell me such a thing. Even shows that are available on DVD are often only available in the UK. As such, my sympathy for the "What if people overseas see the content?" argument is slim to none. If you won't sell it to me, I don't believe you have any moral right to complain if I copy it illegally.
I always felt 1st and 2nd level characters weren't much fun; they were just too easy to kill and too limited in abilities.
Similarly, I always found myself hitting the point of No Fun at around 13th or 14th level. Actually endangering a character at that point requires scenarios that stretch credulity. So I always used to retire characters once they hit 14th.
The "sweet spot" for me has always been around levels 6-10.
I just downloaded Symphony, and it claims to be able to import Word Pro files.
I don't have any to test, though.

Now that Google have got a Presentations module, I hope they'll go back and make the word processor usable.
Right now it doesn't have proper support for paragraph breaks, which makes it utterly useless for serious word processing.
Find me another audio player which:
...but doesn't require proprietary software, and I might switch.
If you can't find one, then you've answered your own question.
Yeah, and the GIMP UI "problem" only exists in the heads of people who have never used the GIMP.
To anyone else who was curious and potentially interested:
No, they're not fixing the syntactic whitespace problem.
Move along, nothing to see.
I love the way the GIMP has two completely different File menus with different contents. That cracks me up every time.
Umm, that's another proprietary one. "(data transfer only)", i.e. you can't just drop the files on it.

The other genius move they made was making sure you couldn't play FF XI on a slimline PS2, only on one of the original hairdryer ones.
You need a paid account to set up the feed from your site to LJ, but once it's set up by any paid user, anyone can friend it.
Wrong. They just add your Atom feed as an external feed on LiveJournal, friend it, and all your posts show up on their friends page.
You don't have to leave anyone behind when you leave LiveJournal. Just set up your new site to support OpenID and Atom feeds, and all your LJ-using friends can log in to your site and comment, and subscribe to your journal.

No, the 6.x to 7.x X11 upgrade was a major problem for ATI FireGL T2 users. I know, because the problem bit me too in Debian.
I'd like to see CUPS actually work printing to my IPP network printer.
Yes, if I were going to buy one or the other, I'd pick HD-DVD, so as to avoid region coding.
But in fact, well-upscaled DVD is good enough on the medium sized TV I have, so I'll just wait to see who wins.
I'm sorry to hear your DVD player sucks. Why don't you get one with a decent upscaler? They're pretty cheap these days.
