Not every kid learns that way. Learning at a computer provides different learning styles. I was terrible at Algebra when I was in high school. When I went to college I took an algebra class that met once a week and I got an A. The difference? I learned Algebra on a computer instead of a teacher that didn't want to repeat themselves or explain it in a way that made sense to me. The answer is to use technology to supplement education, it shouldn't be one or the other. Many classrooms around the country are already doing that. One last point. There are several jobs, like software development or IT, that you need to be able to consistently learn. You aren't going to be able to sit in a classroom and have someone teach you the new trendy programming language. You need to learn it on your own, usually with a computer.
I get that there is a high demand for these types of jobs; However, with all the advances in AI and robotics, are skilled trades going to be viable careers in the next 20 years? I think a lot of jobs are going to continue to be outsourced or automated. I know several people whose jobs got replaced by robotics or software.
For most companies IT is like taxes, it's a drag on your bottom line but it's unavoidable so you try to take as many shortcuts as possible. From a business administration point of view, IT doesn't generate revenue so investing in it isn't attractive even if the company is vulnerable without proper IT.
Comixology has an unlimited subscription that got me into a lot of series I wouldn't have spent money on. If you have any kind of tablet digital is the way to go. I only get a physical copy if I really liked it and knew I'd read it again. As far as comics go, Locke and Key is one of my absolute favorites and it's a limited series. I really liked Scott Pilgrim as well. I used to read a lot of DC, but I haven't liked anything they've done in a while.
I just got back from Defcon 19 and Moxie had a talk on the future of SSL. He discussed a project he was working on called Convergence that for now is just a firefox plugin but what it does is rather than communicate with a certificate authority such as Comodo or Verisign it communicates with a notary instead. You can decide which notaries to trust on the fly. No more self signed SSL warnings, no more trusting Comodo when they get hacked. Exciting stuff! So to answer the question does SSL validation matter? If it did, it won't for long. Check out www.convergence.io and see for yourself, I've been using it since I got home from Defcon.
