I don't think this is as big of a deal that people are thinking it is. From the article and from what I've heard from other people before is that only traffic dest for the mail/news servers are being throttled back. Traffic dest'n for the anything else still gets the "Best Effort" that one would normally get across the Internet.
Now if they throttled ALL traffic that would be a big issue to get up into arms about. But if they just throttle traffic to their servers instead of adding more servers/server clusters then is it really a big problem if my POP3 or NNTP isn't as blazing quick to their servers than it is elsewhere?
Something to be upset about isn't traffic throttling it's their stupid router that keeps dropping off the face of the earth every so often forcing me to kill dhcpcd and restarting it to get it to respond to my traffic again!!!
The central office is defined as the building that services your phone lines. Basically all the phone lines in a particular area are "pulled" back to one location, that's the central office. Those phone lines are then muxed and then trunked around to other central offices or to other PSTN networks.
It's all well and good to say that if you don't like the extentions then don't use them or blast the web sites that do, but think if it this way. If you where to design a site, the no brainer way of designing it would be to use just the standards that every web browser was suppose to support, but what if the web browser that a majority of the people out there used didn't support those standards? You would be forced to design in such a way that the browser would actually work. Thus the need to use the extentions that won't work with other browsers.
IANAL but... your not pleading guilty, your pleading no contest, i.e. you have no way of dening what was presented. This is different than pleading guilty, as with no contest is not a conviction. For most things, end result is the same, that you have to end up paying the fee.
I think the problem is that for felonies you are suppose to report them on the employement application form and at the end you sign away saying everything on there is correct. It was the fact that they lied on the application, not that there was a felony.
RSM - Route Switch Module - Basically a router on a card in the switch for routing between VLANs
MSFC - Multilayer Switch Feature Card - Once a route for a packet flow is figured out (from the first packet going through the router) all other packets from the flow get switched instead of routed.
-> So what? Cable modems flop, AOL cancels their service as customer switch to other connection methods, then AT&T is still left holding the bag.
You seem to forget that AOL isn't the only ISP in existance. Take a look at xDSL services for an example, here in St. Louis, I when I signed up after something like a week of it being offered there was something like 5 ISP's including SouthWestern Bell (who provides the DSL line) that I could find in just a couple of minutes. Today (just a few months later) the list has grown and I can barely open a newspaper or watching TV without seeing an add from something like "Joe's discount ISP service" offering DSL connections.
Broadband access is a big buzzword today. Cheap and inexpensive (for the bandwidth) high bandwidth 24/7 never worry about having to dialup and getting the "busy signal". It's taking off in a really big way in just the last few months. Cable modems have a huge advantage in that it's only real competitor right now is xDSL but there is those really annoying distance limitations. I know quite a few people that have cable modem service just because they were too far away from the telco for xDSL. Who wouldn't want a part of that action?
Yes, he currently works for NASA, but before that he did do a stint at the NSA. Donald Becker has worked at many places over the years (those that I know about are Harris Corp, NSA, MIT and NASA), when he first started working on the Linux ethernet drivers he was working at the NSA though and thusly the copyright included in the ethernet drivers that he wrote.
I can't believe all the crap that is being put out about what went wrong with the kids... On the way to work this morning I got preached by the morning DJ about how of course it was the music how can anyone listen to the music and not have it effect them... The music, the Internet, the games, it's all crap... If that was the problem then I would of gone on a shooting rampage a long time ago. I mean look at my last name 'Bugg' you think I didn't get a lot of grief about it in school, you think now that I'm in a Corp. setting I still don't get it (I can't believe the number of times peope come up to me and ask me "So I guess you got laughed at in school" [me] "Actually no, why you ask?") and I listen to music such as Rob Zombie, Danzig, Suicidal Tendencies, Mifits, just to name a few of my current playlists and I love to play DOOM/Quake type games and love it even more in Deathmatch... I've had a modem connection to BBSs and Internet since I was in earily grade school... How is it that I haven't picked others off with a gun that my father would keep... I'll tell you why, I know the value of life, I have something to strive for when I wake up in the morning and the want and need to see it continue when I go to sleep... That's something that all people going on killing spree's don't have. They can't seem to be able to graps the concept that when they kill someone in a computer game that it's different when they kill in real life. And until people get instilled with this it's just gonna go on and something else will get blamed... Anyone remember when Dungion&Dragons was made out to be Satan's handy work and would lead the kids to ruin???
But you forget that you won't be the only one affected by a tax cut... Your ISP will have tax cuts as well allowing them to lower their prices and BellSouth as well (allowing them and them actually doing it, is of course two seperate things) So instead of paying $1,000/month you might need to pay only $700/month (yes I pulled this figure from the air and has no reality basis except as an example) so combine that with your tax cuts it actually brings it down to a possible payable amount for an individual person.

Just my two cents.

Hey how about instead of having to have someone else pay for our medical expenses why not be able to have affordable medical treatment.
