talk about half blind.
If you were a recovering alcoholic and you wrote something to help other recovering alcoholic's, it does not automatically mean you are being "precious".
Just because a group recognizes a problem thaat they have, doesn't mean they are considering themselves precious. So what if other social groups/professions/whatever have the same problem.
Occams razor doesn't help in this context. sure, it's plausible that the $10M is more likely than $20M-$10M, but it does not provide you with any proof that that is actually the case.
It is entirely possible that the second scenario could be true.
That depends on how good DMcB's english is. Saying it emanated from, I think, implies only discussion of it's point of origin. What he's saying is that this code snippet originated at SGI from whence he previously thought it came (somewhere SCO owns I presume). Thereby quite easily allowing the conclusion that SCO does not know the history of, at least, the snippet they put out as an example.
Even before Heinlein and the golden age. Find a copy of the 1927 film metropolis. Written by Fritz Lang and Thea von Harbou, they've got computers, video phones, underground cities and flying cars even.
where researchers have already created tiny logic circuits and memory--
He reckons he has already created logic circuits.
And there wasn't that much bashing of the semi conductor industry. Semi conductors are what is availiable now, whats wrong with someone saying they want to try something completely different because they think it will go further?
And does't just thinking that it might be vaguely possible, just make you swoon?
surely, given the international nature of the web, no single agency belonging to a single governement could enforce any sort of reasonable control. it would have to be some form of international agency funded by pretty much every government that has citizens accessing the web.
which gives rise to governments arguing as to what is factual and what isn't. using the majority opinion of the current population (which is also having trouble deciding what is factual and what isn't).
sorta nice in theory (global agency ensuring adherence to a set of internationally agreed standards) i suppose, but it just isn't going to happen. america agreeing with iraq on what happened in the gulf war? maybe in fifty years time, but not today.
you are not thinking of an international conspiracy of LED manufacturers buying up the technology such as the oil companies are wont to do with engines that run on water?
so what happens? they get fined $50 and told to pick up the garbage :)

it's fairly regular integrity that bites MS in athe ass occaisionally.
Could care less, but caring would require effort and they don't care enough to put the effort into not caring more :)
