  2. The real problem on Harvard to Clone Human Embryos? · · Score: 2, Informative

First, let me start saying I believe life begins at the moment of conception, so i don't take *embryonic* stem cell research lightly. What bothers me is that people talk as if there's only one way to produce stem cells, through embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in vitro.

Why other ways of producing stem cells are not beeing actively pursued, researched and advocated?

For instance, there is other kind of stem cells: adult stem cells. These are "found among differentiated cells in a tissue or organ" Of course adult stem cells are rare and embryonic stem cells are a lot easier to grow in culture than adult stem cells since "methods for expanding their numbers in cell culture have not yet been worked out", but both have advantages and disadvantages worth considering.

  3. Spirit is moving - Look at the images! on Spirit Rover Disabled on Mars · · Score: 3, Interesting

Just by looking at the pictures taken by Spirit's Front Hazard Camera at 14:23:00 UTC and 14:32:06 UTC today (look here to decode the image time from its name) you can see the rover has moved!!

As of this writing I could'nt find any statement from NASA or from the Rovers' official site indicating whether or not this particular problem is resolved. Nevertheless I hope all is well with Spirit and this was nothing but a simple glitch.

  4. Re:Postgres/MySQL + OLAP? on PostgreSQL 7.4 Released · · Score: 1

Yes, there is. I haven't quite tried it, but I'm about to. It's called

Mondrian OLAP: Mondrian is an OLAP (online analytical processing) database written in Java. It implements the MDX language, and the XML for Analysis and JOLAP specifications. It reads from SQL and other data sources, and aggregates data in a memory cache.

Don't worry if its home page is usually down. The full home page hierarchy is included in the documentation.

To complement Mondrian OLAP functionality there is another very useful project:

JPivot (project page) : JPivot is a JSP custom tag library that renders an OLAP table and let users perform typical OLAP navigations like drill down, slice and dice. It uses Mondrian as its OLAP Server.

Neo didn't die... At least I don't think he did.The Oracle says they will see him again.

Of course we will see him again! Not Neo as Neo the Neo, but inevitably ;) , there will be another messiah somewhere in the future. I think that was what the Oracle was referring to.
Remember the Architect talk in Reloaded? "This Neo" is only the sixth or seventh one.
