    ... is Marketing. They learned long ago that quantity is much more important than quality, and that once you have market share you control the game.

    This show sounds like an extension of that philosophy. "He who controls what the consumer sees controls what the consumer buys."

    It's a shame they don't put the energy into creating their products as they put into marketing their products.

    Does anyone else think this might just be a ploy to garner a little more ammo for their upcoming appeal?
    "Look your honor - we can play nice! The geek community complained, and we opened our arms to them!"
    And how many people will ignore or forget the fact that the problems arose when MS bastardized an open protocol. Of course, when you're Bill Gates, you can afford to re-write history...

    They understand portability all right - they just see it as a bad thing. Unless, of course, you're referring to being portable between Windows 9x and Windows 2000.

    I haven't read the PDF, but what can this language possibly do that Java, et al, doesn't? Do you think this could just possibly be MS circumventing the legal hassles they ran into by 'embracing & extending' Java? I believe this was pointed out to be one of the ways around patent violation: create a new methodology that produces the same result...

    They could probably also use many current Epson ink jet printers. Mine plays a little tune every time I turn it on.
    I've never understood why those printers make so much noise. The whiring and buzzing seems to last for about 30 seconds! My HP deskjet doesn't make any sound at all on power-up.
