I'm on flexitime over in the UK and have been for a while, these are the key benefits and costs of flexitime from mine and the companies point of view:
Pro's
I don't wake up before 10 regardless of whether my eyes are open or I'm at work. If I'm in the office, it's dead time.
On those nights I'm don't have things planned I like working into the night, as opposed to going home and crashing in front of the tv (or whatever).
For those nights I do have things planned, I can take off because I've made up the hours on the other nights.
I'm happier
On those nights I do go out, I don't have to worry about getting home early because I have to get to work in the morning.
It's warm and sunny when I get up
The tubes have fewer people in them (no rush hour traffic etc.).
I work longer and harder and I have more fun.
No bathroom rush.
Cons
Communication (although partially solved by mobile phone).
Coverage for management, support etc. if the company is anal and wants managers, support staff etc. around for you, they need to be there for all the hours.
This probably won't help much because most of the pro's are personal, but if your company is cool they should realise that stuff that makes you happier and work harder is "A Good Thing"(tm).
And the number one reason to save your money and buy an Indrema is...Indrema supports independent developers-so we'll get all the perverted games.
I heartily approve of this. I'm very uncomfortable when corporations decide that they have the right to decide what's good for me and what's not. If Indrema will mean less censorship in games, I say GO INDREMA!
er... yeah. riiiiiigggghhtt. there are a number of countries (the scandinavian one's in particular) where a tendency to be more socialist has been very successful. high tax rates. high minimum wage. government sponsored everything and a populace that tends to be better educated and not in any obvious economic difficulties.
this is not a vote for socialism but rather a comment that it works for some and some it's ideals should at least be considered. socialism is not a death sentence.
the dictators that you mention were exactly that. dictators and their governments were dictatorships regardless of their supposed underlying doctrine. tyrants can be capitalists too.
This is a classic case of letting the market decide. The implications are pretty huge, though, because this is letting the market financially reward people who are not predisposed to getting ill or dying, i.e. the market is now becoming the genetic fitness test.
Now, it's been happening already. The insurance industry WILL discriminate on any measurable factors that will influence your future. If you're older they'll charge you more, if you're a male between 18 and 25 they'll charge you more. If you smoke they'll charge you more.
The problem with all of this, however, is that it's just a market driven Eugenics program. A certain person got into a little trouble for this back when he wanted lots of blonde haired blue eyed boys and girls. It was decided soon afterwards that eugenics is a bad idea because people can cause all sorts of Bad Things (tm) to happen when they start meddling.
*ponders this for a moment* Right, well, that would be true if it also held true that those with the most money were breeding the most (or at least ensuring that their genes were propogating the most). But it's not. We have a situation where, in general, those with the most amount of money tend to have the fewest children. yay.
So, we have a reverse Eugenics program, hahahahahaha... the Insurers make sure that all the healthy people get lots of money, they then start having fewer children, all the genetically defective people have no money, have tons of kids and everyone is doomed.
Most of this logic is flawed...
...but what is interesting here from a eugenics point of view is the market factor. Most capitalists, especially Mr Smith, believe that most things work out when the market decides. Should the invisible hand be making genetic decisions?
I don't really know. Perhaps, as the proponents of eugenics say: if we find a successful way to direct the evolution of man, humanity will advance and evolve. If the market can do it, so be it. As an individual who currently doesn't know whether he's got some bugs in his genes, I don't like it one bit. If I turned out to be clean, well, I guess the smoking is going to kill me anyway:)
Have it working on windows NT 4.0 workstation over here.
Kmeleon is surprisingly good for a one man show although he seems to be emulating somewhat older versions of IE (3.0?).
What it does best is just show the potential, though. I'd swap over to an IE clone that was running gecko instead of IE in a second. And for Windows, I want something Windows specific that uses all standard evil (tm) stuff that Windows is actually good at, so I don't have to suffer more than I already do using Big Bill's "operating system".

And Mussolini made the trains run on time.
and mussolini was a fascist not a socialist.
Since we all know that the FBI runs Slashdot, most of these questions were redundant anyway.
